babybell for baby l

"Look at my new pants!"

With baby L in the sling, I managed to finish the waistband on the baby bell bottoms. She gave me just enough time to sew things up and weave in the ends.

I am so pleased with how these came out. The garter stitch bell bottoms are girly without being too frilly or twee. The pink is sweet without giving you tooth decay. And the Knitpicks Shine Sport was a delight to work with (I still can't believe that the yarn for the entire project was only $5!).

And check it out, they totally fit wee one!

I've posted the pattern on my free patterns page and am now completely obsessed with the idea of cooking up some more baby pants patterns for this yarn. So stay tuned...

My goodness those "britches" are so so cute and the little lady is precious as pie!

Posted by: Celaine at March 29, 2007 2:17 PM

She is so sweet. I love the pants. :)

Posted by: Samantha at March 29, 2007 2:18 PM

The bell bottoms are adorable - and just the right amount of sweet.

Ow, my uterus is aching! Beautiful baby and really cute pants.

Now the question is, do I make another baby of my own to make pants for, or do I make pants for someone else's baby?

Posted by: Emily at March 29, 2007 2:46 PM

Aww, look how cute she is in her equally cute new pants!

Posted by: C at March 29, 2007 3:04 PM

Baby L is just so so cute & those beautiful long fingers! The pants look great. I have knit longies for my middle grandchild & plan on knitting some for darling granddaughter too. [If you are unfamiliar with them, longies are wool pants used as soakers for cloth diapered babies.} The one I made for DGS were in organic Treliske in the natural brown tweed color - perfect for a brown eyed, brown haired male toddler. I think knitting small pants is addictive. They just look so cute when worn.

Posted by: Donna at March 29, 2007 3:05 PM

Those are so cute! One of the nice things about the knitted pants, is if they are roomy enough in the seat, you can extend the legs with more garter stitch. They are darling, as is she.

Posted by: PICAdrienne at March 29, 2007 3:18 PM

She is such a beautiful little lady! The pants are super sweet. I CANNOT believe that you can get anything done with a newbie and your sons...aren't your eyes burning from the all night feeding fests????? You put me to shame I tell you!

Posted by: Cynthia at March 29, 2007 3:33 PM

I have some Shine sitting in a corner begging to be something as cute as this. Thank you!

Posted by: Laura at March 29, 2007 3:41 PM

Those are wonderful. I have multiple colors of Shine that will make great stripey pants.

Posted by: Ruth at March 29, 2007 3:43 PM

I am going to make a denim colored pair for my soon to be born nephew. I sish I had learned to knit before my wee ones were school age!!

Posted by: Rachel at March 29, 2007 3:47 PM

I can't wait until I have a baby to make pants for! I have to wait until after September 22nd of this year first, that's when G and I will be getting married. Baby L is so adorable. Think you might could cook up a boy's pattern of those pants?

Posted by: Cole at March 29, 2007 3:50 PM

Hi!
Absolutely adorable, baby and baby pants, both!

I am curious to hear how well the Shine Sport endures multiple wash-n-dries, as the website hints it will. Any stretching, etc? I will keep an eye out for my own project with this yarn (no babies, alas).

Love visiting with you and the kids--thank you for your blogging efforts!

Those are so sweet! And so pink! Way to make me think about a third baby before I even have my second...

Those are fabulous! Too bad my "baby" turns 16 tomorrow!

Posted by: Bobbi at March 29, 2007 5:19 PM

Ohhhhh, the pants are cute and all, but that sweet little baby. My youngest is only 6 months old and I already forgot that itty bitty cuteness that newborns are!

Posted by: Theresa at March 29, 2007 5:20 PM

Hmmmm, but what level of multi-tasker are you!?! Seaming while holding baby while taking a photo!?! Or did you have a cameraman?

Posted by: Bobbi at March 29, 2007 5:21 PM

They look great on her!

Posted by: Oiyi at March 29, 2007 5:32 PM

How very cute! You are quite generous to share the pattern with everyone.

Posted by: Sarah at March 29, 2007 5:39 PM

Awesome pants - I wonder if I can whip some up to go with my Pea Pod sweaters? I could even change the bottom garter to the pea pod edging...dangerous thoughts. I am loving the KP shine sport!

Posted by: Kim at March 29, 2007 6:04 PM

AWWWW!!!! Cute baby and cute pants!!!!! Love the pink!

Posted by: Chelsey at March 29, 2007 6:12 PM

Can you size a set of those for me? No? Hmm... Maybe my 8 year old? (Just kidding, though I might actually try something similar for her.) The pants are awesome, and the baby even more so; my goodness, I'd forgotten just how cute they can be!

Posted by: Christene at March 29, 2007 6:50 PM

I LUV those little pants. I think I will be making a pair. Thanks for posting the pattern.

Posted by: Kristin at March 29, 2007 6:56 PM

How cute (both pants and child)! Thanks for the great pattern -- I'm going to knit these up for my new 2-week old niece, probably in Rowan's Calmer. Thanks again!

Posted by: nona at March 29, 2007 7:18 PM

You have a sling!! Super! I LOVE the pants! Now to see if I can figure out how to make them bigger for my little T who is 9 months now.

Posted by: stephanie at March 29, 2007 7:31 PM

I just LOVE those pants. . . . any chance on getting REALLY bigger sizes. As in, dare I say, ADULT sizes??? How cool would those be for lounging around the house?

C'mon, you know you want a pair too!

Posted by: knittingnurse at March 29, 2007 7:35 PM

Cute little pants! You make the cutest patterns for your little girl!

I love how they're slightly stylishly flared...I have a friend's baby who is due soon and I've been trying to figure out what to knit her. Now I know! :)

Posted by: tania at March 30, 2007 12:59 PM

Oh come on! Those are adorable!! I would love to make a pair for my daughter, but she's turning 2 next week. I hope the pattern will go up that large...? eventually? or maybe I'll just go with the biggest size and knit them longer. :)

Posted by: Jen at March 30, 2007 2:29 PM

oh i can't wait to make a pair of these

Posted by: erin at March 30, 2007 3:14 PM

Those are the most adorable pants! I enjoy reading your blog regularly and have recently created my own. I'm excited to attempt your pattern to make a set for my god-daughter. She's 6 months old, so I'm afraid I'll have to wait for a larger size.
Congratulations on the wee one! She is adorable!

Posted by: Emily at March 30, 2007 3:38 PM

I've followed your blog for about a year now, and I enjoyed the wait for Wee One. She's precious. The boys are so cute and are about the same age as my grandsons who were born 17 days apart. Wishing all the best to you and your family.

Hi Allison,
Baby L looks so comfy in her new Mommy-designed Knitpicks Shine Pants! How Hip is she? Already starting in Bell Bottoms!
I ordered my yarn yesterday: Blush, Coral and Green Apple. Can't wait to get started. My grandbaby girl is due in late June. These will be just right in the early fall! Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us. You are generous.
