sock talk

I hope you've all gone into the database to get your sock pal's info and are excited about your match. I am totally psyched about my pal because I've been wanting to try knitting some fancy, lacy socks (the kind I'd never wear!) and from her preferences, I think my pal would really like some.

I've been stalking the Cookie A site and her Knitty patterns (like Baudelaire and my favorite, Monkey) and also thinking about maybe Embossed Leaves. Now I just have to decide which one to make! And get some fabulous yarn, of course.

So are you all as psyched as I am? Hey, if you can't post on the blogger blog right now, leave a comment here. Let us know what you're thinking about making. Let's talk socks!

i am oh-so-very psyched about my sock pal and i've already told you why. she wants something lacy too and I think another pair of embossed leaves in koigu is on the way....

Posted by: lisa b at May 2, 2007 12:01 PM

Monkey!! These are my practice socks :)

Posted by: taniat at May 2, 2007 12:27 PM

I'm really, really excited! I think my pal is a Harry Potter fan (still digging through her blog archives to make sure), so I'm thinking about getting the Charmed Knits book and doing the snitches and broomsticks socks. I just hope my pal doesn't end up doing them for herself (then, you know, I'd have to keep them for myself--which would be a tragedy, of course--and come up with a new plan)! Maybe I should have a plan B lined up just in case....

Posted by: Elisabeth at May 2, 2007 12:31 PM

Yes, I'm psyched. I have my sock pal's info, and I'm in the process of choosing yarn/pattern. However, I must say that this swap is costing me a fortune...I order yarn for my pal, then see something else that looks good, so I order that, and so on. I'm going to have one heck of a sock stash when this is over!:)

Posted by: Bonnie at May 2, 2007 12:40 PM

I'm so with you on the sock patterns! I was just looking at all of those this morning and then decided on the embossed leaves! I do have my yarn though. Local(Kraemer's) dye-your-own which I've dyed with pink lemonade kool-aid! Its soo pretty!

Posted by: Emily at May 2, 2007 12:55 PM

I'm not quite sure what my sock pal wants. I'm hoping she posts more on her blog so I can get a better idea of her preferences. I want to spoil her with the most fabulous pair of socks ever! Post, people, post!

Posted by: Chialea at May 2, 2007 1:04 PM

SOcks sock socks what to knitted ordered yarn....yah!!! two colours cause I couldn't decide need to see them in person.... Lorna's laces as for the sock I'm thinking roza's socks....but again need to see the sock yarn first and then maybe decide.

Posted by: Dara at May 2, 2007 1:27 PM

I'm thinking about Cookie A.'s Monkey socks, but haven't totally decided...

Posted by: beverly at May 2, 2007 2:04 PM

The blog is scary! 786 posts in a week? I've had my blog for a year and a half, and I've only made 115 posts!

I'm excited that my pal likes green and purple together, and it gave me a chance to try Neighborhood Fiber Co's Studio Sock - it's dyed right here in DC and named after local neighborhoods.

Posted by: Amber at May 2, 2007 2:13 PM

I'm excited because from my pal's info, it sounds like she likes anything and the sky is the limit! I wish she had a blog though, I don't want to accidentally make her a pattern she already has. I think this is an excellent opportunity for me to go yarn shopping...

Posted by: Jenn at May 2, 2007 2:14 PM

OOhhhh, those sound like my preferences!! But with 1000 members it's just a wild guess, I suppose. This is so fun already.

Posted by: Cirilia at May 2, 2007 2:20 PM

My pal likes ankle socks, and since I like longer ones I'm finding it somewhat of a challenge to come up with a pattern. I'm starting to get a couple of vague ideas.

Blogger accepted my info when I tried to sign up for the blog but then didn't give me access to it -- I gather a lot of people have been having this problem. Is it time to try again?

Posted by: Lucia at May 2, 2007 2:22 PM

Oohh, I've made both Monkey and the Embossed Leaves and they're both fantastic!

Posted by: alyson at May 2, 2007 2:26 PM

I've stalked my pal's blog and decided on the colors she likes. All I have to work with for size is her shoe size, but I think that's doable. I just have to figure out what to make. I think this will be a project for my upcoming cruise. Socks are perfect to knit on vacation!

Posted by: Cindy in Oregon at May 2, 2007 2:31 PM

Well I'd like to post on the Sockapalooooza blog but unfortunately the invitation didn't come through to me.
Anyway I am psyched also. I already got a pattern and I went yarn shopping this morning.

Best wishes
Petra

Not sock related but I am *so psyched* because my local bookstore called to tell me Charmed Knits is in, and I am picking it up this afternoon. I. Cannot. Wait.

Posted by: Beth in WI at May 2, 2007 2:37 PM

The monkey socks knit up pretty well and were fairly quick. I made my pair in Regia Silk (and made them a wee bit too loose for me), and they look as good in a solid as they do in the variegated ones I've seen online.

Posted by: Seanna Lea at May 2, 2007 2:39 PM

I have been having a great time stalking yarn and sock pattern sites. I'm thinking about one of Cookie A's patterns, too or Charade which is new from I may be knitting a ranch house.

My pal doesn't have a blog, but responded quickly to my email. I can't wait for my yarn to get here!

Posted by: Lisa at May 2, 2007 2:42 PM

I have my match info, but I'm still thinking about what to make. I need to find a nice yarn too!

Posted by: Danielle at May 2, 2007 2:53 PM

I've got a ton of sock yarn! I know I must have something my pal would like. I've got my match info too.

Posted by: Michelle at May 2, 2007 3:09 PM

I'm anxious to get knitting for my pal. The invitation to the blog just gives me a server error, but I will keep trying.

Posted by: Susan Johnson at May 2, 2007 3:14 PM

My pal is too easy to knit for. She says she's up for anything, and now I'm paralyzed in the face of too many options. And she doesn't have a blog to use for guidance! Ah well, maybe it's time to do some crazy fair isle in Blue Moon...

Posted by: Protagitron at May 2, 2007 3:33 PM

Yeah! I can't wait to start knitting my little heart out!
Can you send me an invite to the blog again ... it didn't work the first time and I deleted the email by accident before trying again :(
THanks!

Posted by: Carissa at May 2, 2007 3:39 PM

Tooooootally off topic, but have you seen the new Magknits issue? The baby hats made me think of you and little one *instantly*!!

Posted by: Karma at May 2, 2007 3:49 PM

I've given up on posting to the blog for now, hopefully that will smooth out soon.

In the meantime I'm stalking my victim and already received a wonderful email from my pal as well. Good times! I'm geekily excited to get started.

I'm going to bury myself in sock patterns tonite until I decide. There are so many cool patterns available these days it's hard to choose!

And then, on to yarn! :P

Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2007 4:04 PM

My pal was easy, just wool. Not even a color choice. And her blog shows lots of different colors and styles. So, I am thinking the Math Whiz pattern in some Cherry Tree Hill, STR or Sundara yarn.

Posted by: Mindy at May 2, 2007 4:06 PM

I've been looking around for the perfect yarn! My pal likes blue and LL has so many pretty ones....choices choices..

Posted by: yuvee at May 2, 2007 4:36 PM

My sock pal lives somewhere warm, so I was thinking about making some anklets, maybe lacy with with a bit of crochet trim. The only thing is, I was thinking that anklets are so small, perhaps I should make two pair. Then I thought, that might be over kill.

Guidance would be appreciated. :-)

Posted by: LaurieM at May 2, 2007 4:50 PM

I'm very psyched! (And distracted, I should be writing a paper, hehe.)

I love Cookie's patterns, I've just finished knitting a pair of Monkey socks, and now I'm working on Thelonious. I've also made Embossed Leaves, which are wonderful too.

So many choices!

Posted by: Jennifer at May 2, 2007 4:57 PM

This is so exciting! I got my pal's info the other day, but I can't decide on a pattern! The fun part is that she loves the same colors as me, which will make choosing a yarn easy. The tough part will be that she's got smaller feet than me, so I'm a little worried about making socks that fit her.

Now, if I could only choose a pattern...

Posted by: Jen at May 2, 2007 5:05 PM

I already have the yarn picked out for my swap pal now I just need to find just the right pattern!

Posted by: Kelly at May 2, 2007 5:26 PM

I am totally psyched to get started. I have designed a sock pattern that I think will be something my sock pal will totally dig. I can't wait to get started!!!

Posted by: Trish at May 2, 2007 5:44 PM

I am so, so, so excited for sockapalooza. I have to hold my self back picking a pattern and knitting right away. I want to stalk my pal for a bit to get a better read on her wants, find the perfect sock yarn and all that. Off to do a little stalking.:)

Posted by: Tawana at May 2, 2007 5:53 PM

I am so excited about sockapalooza! Unfortunately my pal didn't give any measurements in her profile & hasn't responded to my email yet. :(

btw- can't post to the blog, I keep getting a server error every time.

Posted by: kim at May 2, 2007 6:16 PM

I'm SO excited about knitting for my sock pal! I'm lucky - she has a blog. And (get this) - her foot size is exactly the same as mine - how easy is that?! Plus, she seems to favor the same yarns I do (which is a good thing since I'm happier knitting with yarns I love).

I'm one of the knitters without a blog:( No chance of having time to start one in the near future, either. However, I'd love any pattern anyone knits for me:) I certainly wouldn't mind if someone knit a pattern I already had, 'cause it wouldn't be the same yarn! Looks like my pal has knitted just about every sock in the book - I'm gonna have to get creative in case she doesn't feel the same way:)

Posted by: Carrie Anne at May 2, 2007 6:22 PM

Anklets - I thought of the same for my pal, and my thought was that 2 pair would be what I'd want to send - Just not sure if she'd like them. Time to go blog stalking again:)

Posted by: Carrie Anne at May 2, 2007 6:24 PM

I tried to post all last night and blogger kept eating my post. I'm thinking some texture, so I picked up some very pretty koigu (as if there are any ugly ones) in color #2326 (kind of a slate blu-ish) Now to just decide on what kind of pattern. Dare I attempt knee highs?

Posted by: erin at May 2, 2007 6:27 PM

I haven't gotten a Blogger invite yet either, but with the craziness that's going on over there maybe I'm better off, lol! I have my eyes on a lot of things. Maybe some Lisa Souza yarn... or some Lorna's Laces. And since I'm on this huge Nancy Bush kick lately, maybe something from Knitting Vintage Socks... it's so hard to decide, though! My pal doesn't have a blog but we have had some emails, and she sounds like a great person that I'd really like face-to-face. I want to make her something that she'd really love, and feel spoiled in while wearing!

Posted by: Lorena at May 2, 2007 7:19 PM

I'm having separation anxiety Alison! The first Sockapalooza without me :(

I hope you got my email that I'll be an angel if you need one!

Posted by: Debi at May 2, 2007 9:54 PM

I'm excited because my pal likes colors that I don't usually use. I'm going to have fun 'stretching' a little bit. This weekend is devoted to stalking her blog so that I can see what kind of patterns she likes.

Posted by: Karla (threadbndr) at May 2, 2007 11:22 PM

I'm so excited to get started--thanks so much for hosting, Alison! I'm thinking blue Sundara yarn in a twisted stitch pattern. There are soooo many great patterns out there, it's hard to choose.

Posted by: Carrie at May 3, 2007 1:25 AM

Hi Aly :)
Got my sock pal info and sent her an email right away, she just answered me today....i think, she is from that side of the pond.
I have not been able to post at all on the Sockapalooza's blog. And not for lack of triyng :)

Posted by: Pilar at May 3, 2007 5:51 AM

This is so exciting! I've already got a stalkerish comment on my blog from my sock knitter and in turn have left one on my sock knittee's blog. I'm planning to design a sock pattern, I like the idea of doing something assymetrical and then having mirroring left and right socks. It's one way to avoid SSS (second sock syndrome).

Posted by: Liz T at May 3, 2007 12:24 PM

I'm planning on creating a lace pattern once I narrow down my yarn choices (Yarn pirate in mermaid or Sock fluids in jewel). I need to swatch with both & see what pattern suits which better.

I've sent my pal an email & said Hi. I haven't heard from my sock knitter yet (though I'm sure I will) and I too keep getting an error message when I try to access the "blog".

Posted by: Leah at May 3, 2007 1:08 PM

Unfortunately I never got a blogger invite (sorry to such a pain in the a.. ;-) ) or it got lost inbetween all the spam I'm getting.
Anyway I havn't decided yet as my pal's color scheme is way off my favorite colors, which means I am allowed to go SHOPPING ;-) No better excuse, right ;-)

Posted by: Petra at May 3, 2007 1:45 PM

I haven't been able to log into the sockapalooza site yet, but I'm still trying. I'm stalking my new pal and trying to get a read on what she would like. I've got some hopeful yarn choices in the back of my head.

Posted by: Jess at May 3, 2007 2:14 PM

i had had a pattern & yarn picked out before i ever got my match, with the hopes that it would work. it did! i'm already 2" into the leg!

Posted by: minnie at May 3, 2007 2:46 PM

I've been eyeing the "Merino Lace socks" in Favorite socks (and Spring 2003 IK if I remember correctly) and I just might combine Jitterbug instead of the suggested Koigu since both yarns have similar feel to themselves.

Posted by: zeska at May 3, 2007 3:03 PM

I really enjoyed doing embossed leaves. They were a lot of fun and enchanting while I knit them. I also just finished Quill lace from the latest Knitty and they were positively addicting! I couldn't stop they were so much fun to do!

And there always is Broadripple which was also fun.

Posted by: Laurie at May 3, 2007 3:55 PM

Wow, I was on the Sockapalooza 4 page just now, and lot of people have started their socks already. I'm still trying to decide on a pattern. Or, potentially, patterns.

You see, my sock pal lives somewhere that's pretty warm for most of the year. I thought it might be nice if I knit her a pair of cotton socks (to wear right away) and a pair of wool socks (for later). The problem is, I can't decide on a pattern! If anyone has the time to stop by, I would appreciate any input.

Posted by: Lana at May 4, 2007 10:46 AM

I am so excited and my pal is going to get totally spoiled. I just got my rockin sock club yarn and pattern and was knitting it up for me and decided to goto their website and make a pair for her too. I have checked her blog and she loves BMFA but is not a member of the sock club so I hope this will be a real treat. Cant beleive we broke the blogger site but it will be cool to check out the other site.
