haven't you always wanted a monKEY?!

With all this monkey mania going on, I feel like I've been waiting forever to make some monkeys! After finishing the first embossed leaves sock for my pal and singling out a ball of yarn yearning to become monkey socks for me, I couldn't hold myself back any longer. Let me tell you, knitting those first few repeats was like a release. Ahhh, finally!

It's funny that Cookie A talked about writing this pattern as an addiction, because once she shared it with us the whole knitting world has gotten hooked. Monkeys are everywhere! They seem as infectious as the pink eye that my son B is stuck at home with and as inescapable as that dang Barenaked Ladies song that is stuck in my head like a soundtrack to this whole monkey phenomenon!

Well, as Cookie suggests, there's no other way to get the monkey off your back but to get it out there and infect someone else. So here goes...

But not a real green dress (that's cruel) ...

aw, she is growing up so much! Isn't it scary how fast they change? Oh, and the sock is lovely too. I haven't made any Monkeys yet but I am tempted.. x

She is adorable. And, I LOVE THAT SONG!! Very clever!

Posted by: Jamie at May 30, 2007 9:33 AM

Ahhhh - if I had a million dollars.....

Too cute!!!

Posted by: Alison at May 30, 2007 9:38 AM

Alison, that song was the first thing I thought of when I saw your title, but I really wasn't expecting to see the baby at the end! TOO CUTE! And I hope B's pink eye clears up fast. That's no fun at all.

What about this song by the Barenaked ladies?

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/barenakedladies/anotherpostcard.html

I honestly sing this one every time I see a picture of all of the Monkeys. Here is the part most stuck in my head: Some chimps in swimsuits, some chimps are swinging from a vine
Some chimps in jackboots, some chimps that wish they could be mine.
Starsky and Hutch chimps, a chimp who's sitting on the can
A pair of Dutch chimps who send their love from Amsterdam.

[CHORUS (x2):]
Another postcard with chimpanzees
And every one is addressed to me.

Enjoy!

I think I'm the only person on the planet that does not know this song...and maybe that's a good thing!! The socks are wonderful. I feel the same way, now that I'm comfortable with the socks I'm making for my pal I'm ready for socks for ME!! And monkey socks they might BE!! And wee one...oh, so precious.

Posted by: alotta.knittin at May 30, 2007 10:17 AM

Oh heavens, now I have both of those songs stuck in my head...
Your Monkeys are looking good, love the bright color!

Posted by: Adrienne at May 30, 2007 10:19 AM

Nice to see a reference to a Toronto band! Good to see that they have branched out so much from their monkey roots!

Posted by: Dani at May 30, 2007 10:30 AM

Oh man, she's getting so big! (and more adorable every day!!)

Posted by: Bertha at May 30, 2007 10:31 AM

OMG - who told her that she could get so big so fast!?! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the BNL. I've been singing that song in my head with all this monkey business too! Only problem with the song is that they don't mention buying up a yarn store (y'know, if I had a million dollars and all . . . .)

Posted by: knittingnurse at May 30, 2007 10:31 AM

I love the reference to "If I Had a Million Dollars" I saw the Barenaked Ladies in concert many years ago and loved the show. The always do an impromto song at the end. It was great!

Posted by: LaLa at May 30, 2007 10:44 AM

i don't think baby could be any cuter! just want to snuggle that plump little belly and kiss those chubby cheeks! :o)
have a great day and hope the pink eye goes away quickly! ;o)

Posted by: kelpkim at May 30, 2007 10:54 AM

I have a different BNL song in my head. E eats everything (from the Here come the ABCs CD, which is the most tolerable kids CD I have every listened to).

Here goes:

Look out now, here it comes that final letter Z,
Z's not like the other letters
Z's only eating Es.

Oh, and I think I am catching monkey fever!!!

Posted by: Rachel at May 30, 2007 10:57 AM

Ack! Now that song is totally going to be stuck in my head all day!
And I can't take how cute your little munchkin is. That smile must melt your heart!

Posted by: Allison at May 30, 2007 11:02 AM

Oh that's a catchy one too, Rachel! My boys have that CD and love it. I gotta give the props to They Might Be Giants though. They are geniuses with the catchy songs. The alphabet album is so clever and the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song is also so catchy that it should be outlawed! ;0)

Posted by: ALISON at May 30, 2007 11:05 AM

Glad to see someone else has the monkey fever - I've got the first sock on the needles and am closing in on the first toe. I can't tell you how much I want work to be over so that I can get home and get a few more repeats done. Those socks are so much fun to knit!

PS - BNL are fantastic.

Posted by: Kristin at May 30, 2007 11:12 AM

Yep! The monkey has bitten me also. Honestly, what else are you going to do with a color called Aloha? Run it up the coconut palm and see which monkey climbs to the top first! More details here: http://afewstitchesshort.blogspot.com/

BTW, cute little monkey you've got lying around your house these days. My goodness, how she's grown!

Posted by: Susan P at May 30, 2007 11:13 AM

Oh, great. Now it IS in my head..."I would buy you a house.." My son loves that song! So sweet! She's gotten sooooo big!

Posted by: Jennifer at May 30, 2007 11:16 AM

Ok, I am showing my age now, but in the 60's there was this brit band called the monkees and that is the song I hear...
Hey, hey we're the monkees, people say we monkey around.....etc, etc.
Guess I fit in that "grandmother" knitter slot.
Hunh.

Posted by: brenda at May 30, 2007 11:38 AM

What's cruel about a green dress?

Posted by: Arianne at May 30, 2007 11:54 AM

I'm singing with you Brenda...
"But we're too busy singing, to put anybody down...."

Loooooooved the Monkeys!!

Posted by: ALISON at May 30, 2007 12:27 PM

Arianne, you gotta read the lyrics. They're too funny!

Posted by: ALISON at May 30, 2007 12:29 PM

Don't let her spill any really expensive Dijon ketchup on that real green dress, now. :)

Posted by: Beth in WI at May 30, 2007 12:45 PM

Oh, that is the sweetest dress -- I want one too!

Posted by: Nadia Lewis at May 30, 2007 12:50 PM

i LOVE that song. and the baby is getting cuter every day!

Posted by: helen at May 30, 2007 2:00 PM

And even worse, not only does it look good but the pattern is really fun to knit!

Posted by: Sulafaye at May 30, 2007 2:23 PM

oh my your baby is too cute! Thank you for the time you put into sockapalooza. Although I have never participated I love seeing what everyone is doing! One day I will be a joiner.

And pink eye with kids is terrible the drops sting there little eyes. My anthroposophic doctor recommended a fennel tea eye wash several times a day which worked fast and without pain.
peace

Posted by: michele at May 30, 2007 3:02 PM

I'd say that monkey is a piece of art . . . like a Picasso or a Garfunkel.

Just want to pinch those cutie-pie cheeks!

Posted by: Ava at May 30, 2007 3:14 PM

Your daughter is beautiful! And she has the bluest eyes I've ever seen on a wee one.

Posted by: sara at May 30, 2007 3:18 PM

OK, now I have that song stuck in my head! I might have to dye myself up some wildly (for me) variegated yarn and try non-solid Monkeys!

Posted by: Seanna Lea at May 30, 2007 3:36 PM

What a cutie!!!!

Posted by: Sarah at May 30, 2007 4:34 PM

OH. The lyrics link has explained it all to this puzzled lady.

Posted by: Mary K. in Rockport at May 30, 2007 5:02 PM

If i had a million dollars....

*wanders off humming*

Posted by: Chelsey at May 30, 2007 7:07 PM

Nice to see a bit of Canadiana - your northern neighbours thank you!

Posted by: Shannon B at May 30, 2007 9:00 PM

That color suits the pattern well. Pretty Monkey!

Posted by: Sarah at May 30, 2007 11:41 PM

I just started a pair of Monkeys this week too -- Very addictive!

Your baby is just beautiful. Love the green dress.

Posted by: Cynthia at May 31, 2007 1:15 PM

Aaaah! The cuteness! I cannot take it! It is too much! I love the green dress, but it's not as cute as the one wearing it.

Posted by: Katherine Allred at May 31, 2007 1:19 PM

That monkey is the most fabulous color ever! It could make the most desolate soul on earth break into a smile.

Posted by: Sarah-Hope at May 31, 2007 3:54 PM

I love that song! And love the socks

Posted by: sandi at May 31, 2007 10:05 PM

I love that song! And love the socks
