harry potter countdown
Are you getting excited?! There's so much going on...
Potter Podcast! This past weekend I recorded a podcast with local knitter, podcaster, and HP fan, Guido of it's a purl man. We discussed Harry Potter with Jane from Porter Square Books. It was loads of fun - my first time doing a podcast! - and it got me thinking about all the things I want to see in the upcoming movie and in the final book. The podcast should be airing in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned to Guido's show!

Potter party at Webs!! The weekend between the movie premiere and the book release, I'll be visiting Webs in Northampton, MA for a book signing and HP party. They're opening the store on Sunday, July 15 starting at 1pm just for us Potter enthusiasts to talk and knit Harry Potter (and do a little shopping - I've already got a list!). It sounds like they've got some neat Harry Potter themed events planned for the afternoon, so come join us.
Potter Parade! Are you planning your knits to wear to the releases? It's not exactly sweater weather this time, so this group has decided to make invisibility shawls to wear at the movie premiere and the book release. Awesome idea!

I was thinking of maybe wearing a hip house scarf or another little surprise something that I'm still working on. Aaack, the clock is ticking!

this is so funny!! I just got almost ten year old to sleep (7 am here on the west coast) because he decided to stay up all night and finish reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I have a feeling we'll be fighting over the next book, might have to get two copies to keep us happy!
I'm excited but a little sad too.
I'm so excited! I've finished my Ravenclaw kneesocks, and all my knits are ready to wear. I'm justifying my wool-wearing tendencies with the thought that since I'll be going out at midnight to both events, it'll be cooler, and wearing scarves, socks, and other paraphrenalia won't seem as crazy. :)
I'm wearing my Hogwarts Hip Scarf to the movie, which I'll be seeing in London. But I'll be in Avignon, France when the book comes out and it may be a few days until I can get at it :(
The other night, Keith Olbermann had a very interesting analysis and prediction of how he thought the final book will end. Much better and more satisfying than the supposed 'spoiler' circulating on the Internet.
I just got your book this past weekend, and I was going to bring it by to my friends to take requests. Of course, my hubby wants a vest, so I will probably do the House Sweater without sleeves or find a vest pattern that knits to the right dimensions and add the strips in.
I am so excited about the movie and the book! I found out yesterday that I will be at camp when the book comes out!!!!!!! WHAT WILL I DOOOOOOOO??? wah.
I made a tank with the gryffindor colors! I'm ready!
I'm holding off on the sleeves on my Ravenclaw uniform sweater for the time being and just making the back and front--I'll wear it as a vest, which is totally movie-okay. =)
Where can I find your podcast?
Here in Rockport, we are are supporting our wonderful independent bookstore, Toad Hall, which will be having a midnight release party for Book 7 with games, prizes and, reportedly, a visit from the ghost of Salazar Slytherin who will be bringing snakes! Snakes! I'm knitting some prizes, to wit, a wizard hat, a tie and a Gryffindor scarf. For those who are vacationing on the North Shore, avoid the highway and come to Toad Hall (shameless plug.)
I have a doubly-thick Ravenclaw scarf, so I'm hoping to see it in a theatre where the line waits inside. It's hot out!
Sadly I'll be in a town with no bookstores (!) for the book release, so I don't get to wear the scarf for that. Sniffle.
I'm totally excited about the book and the movie. I've just begun rereading the 6th book to gear up for the release of the 7th. Oddly enough, Harry is a name that my husband and I considered for our soon-to-arrive son.
Trying to finish daughters Gryffindor socks! Have a beanie for her, just need the socks now!
Its cold here in Melbourne Australia at the moment, so I am in the midst of knitting up the Gryffindor beanie, and next up is the scarf- I dont think theres enough time for a sweater since opening is on the 11th of July- unless I omit household chores :)
Speaking of HP podcasts (and because you've obviously been to Mugglenet) you should really check out Mugglecast. It's really interesting and fun to listen to.
BTW: I plan to make something HP related before the premiere. Most likely a quick scarf.
Thanks for posting about out little KAL! I'm so excited to wear my shawl to the book release party. Sure it will be hot, but it's going to look awesome!
Oh what a great idea! I am totally casting on for a hip scarf tonight.
Absolutely loved your book Charmed Knits and especially the Phoenix Tears Scarf. Finding those Colinette yarns in Fire has been next to impossible. Could someone find some American substitutes to post online so we have some readily available yarns???? Thanx!
I'm using Bravo Classic Elite yarn in color 3727 for Color A (flames), and La Gran Classic Elite mohair in color 2/06585-6538 (not sure which part designate color) for Color B. I also got a ball of Cedifra (Gedifra?) fringed ribbon yarn, color 3801, to weave in with the tail feathers. This all got rather pricey, but I really do like the effect. I'm only on the garter stitch part now, as I didn't realize the movie is coming out NEXT WEEK!!! Yikes! But I'll get it finished, as it does knit up fast.
A report on the yarn I just posted about. I'm finding that the garter stitch seemed too thick (especially for my granddaughter who lives in the South), so I'm now experimenting with just continuing the looped/dropped stitches, adding in Yarn B where suggested and using both yarns together. (I may even try triple-looping them and see what happens.) I tried using Yarn B alone, and it was too flimsy. If she lived Up North, I think I'd go with what the pattern says to do.
It is gorgeous yarn, and I love working with it.
