The boys!

trying to decide who's taller

A lot of you have wondered where the boys are these days. Never fear, they're running around doing all the things that 1st grade boys do. That of course means that they haven't really intersected my knitting/crafting life that much of late. That is, until Monday when S comes down the stairs while we're packing up for sports camp and says, "mommy, I have to show you this interesting thing I saw in the Highlights magazine." I'm thinking maybe it's some article on bears or bees or one of those hidden picture puzzles to solve. Nope.

Him: "Look, here it says CRAFTS."
Me, clearly not getting it: "Uh-huh."
Him: "Look, you take a milk carton and cut it and glue paper to it and some ribbon..."

And with the enthusiasm usually reserved for picking out new Lego sets, he explains.

Him: "It's a pretty container - we have to make one!"
Me, incredulous: "Okay."
Him: "I can put things in it. We have paper. Do we have a milk carton? Can we make it now?"

Whaddaya gonna do? The boy wants to craft. And so we made it.

B didn't want to feel like he was missing out on the fun but we were out of half-gallon milk jugs and he's not quite as into the crafting as his brother, so he just had me do one of the other crafts in the book for him.

Also back...

emli!

Yes, without warning, wee one's suitcase suddenly showed up again and she's been wearing all her best little clothes and her enjoying her favorite toys again.

It's good to be back.

I'm so happy wee one's suitcase has returned! I read about its disappearance the other day and felt so bad for you. Hurray for cute clothes and favorite toys!

How cute that S wanted to make a pretty container. Just when you think you know them... hee!

Yeah, the suitcase is back! When I read about the lost suitcase and that is was the baby's with all her cute stuff, I felt sad. But now it's like Christmas! Glad to hear and see the wee hat is back!

that's some great air travel karma, to have the suitcase show up. so happy for you -- wee one looks so happy in that hat!

Wonderful pics, wonderful story.

This is one pic of L that's still adorable even if you can't see her face.

YAY for the return of handknits and baby things. :) I'm so glad they are back.

I'm so glad that wee one has her dolly back. That can be traumatic!

Posted by: megan at August 15, 2007 12:22 PM

I didn't realize little boys had "trinkets". ;-)
Good for him, wanting to make a pretty container.

Yay-foo!!! the suitcase was found! That is so awesome. Your kids are so beautiful! :)

Posted by: the Procrastinatrix at August 15, 2007 12:28 PM

There is something adorable about a first-grade boy getting excited over a "pretty container". And hurrah for the return of the suitcase!

Posted by: ames at August 15, 2007 12:31 PM

so happy that the suitcase found its way home!

Posted by: debbie at August 15, 2007 12:33 PM

Posted by: colleen at August 15, 2007 12:38 PM

Posted by: Kim at August 15, 2007 12:48 PM

Yay for the return of all wee one's special things! And crafts suddenly got BIG again once my boys hit 1st grade. Not sure why, but we now have a ton of pipe cleaners, paint, pens, glue, tape (this one we could buy in bulk, I swear), construction paper, scissors, and paper. They're not averse to asking (begging) for bits of my yarn, either. Too funny!

Posted by: Kathy at August 15, 2007 12:54 PM

Yay fo wee-ones suitcase! And another yay for boys crafting! Love it!

Posted by: Melissa at August 15, 2007 1:06 PM

I just knew the suitcase would come back!! YAY!!!

Such cute crafting boys too!!

Posted by: BerryKnitty at August 15, 2007 1:17 PM

I had been wondering about the boys - so cute that they appreciate the crafts!!! When my girls were little, there was a sort of recycling center where you could go & for about $1 fill a shopping bag with all kinds of things that could be used for crafts - odds & ends of wallpaper, pipe cleaners, ribbons, string, etc. I can't remember exactly where they obtained the stuff (local retail stores or other businesses of some kind) but it was a great idea - parents & teachers could scoop up great crafting supplies for next to nothing & stuff that was otherwise sent to a landfill was used instead, I am so happy you got wee one's suitcase back!!

Posted by: Donna at August 15, 2007 1:17 PM

YAY on the return of the suitcase! and is wee one sitting on her own? that's so great! my little peanut refuses to hit certain milestones like rolling over or sitting up on her own. she would rather suck on her toes :)

Posted by: gleek at August 15, 2007 1:23 PM

i am glad to see that the wee ones got all her stuff back

Hooray for the suitcase gods! The boys are very creative, just like their mom. :)

Yay for suitcases being returned! With all their items!

(Very lucky that is. My suitcase was misplaced and when returned, half of the contents were missing. Hmmm... most strange item to be missed: my childhood photo album (used for a wedding). Why?! Who wants pics of some random kid?)

I'm so glad your suitcase finally came back ! It's so sad to lose things, especially precious like baby clothes and toys.
I lost a bag once, with all my cross stitch and knitting in it (stupid girl, really !). I kept calling the airport and explaining how it looked like, that it was small, that my plane stopped at Chicago and that maybe it stayed in it (I had to change to continue my trip), until a woman from the airport in Tucson called me back to tell me that she went to look for it after her work and she found it on the tarmak... unfortunately I was not home when she called so I could'nt thank her properly, but I wish there were more like her, she was so nice !

woohoo for wee one's suitcase and crafty boys!!! :D

Posted by: Chelsey at August 15, 2007 2:52 PM

Kids are so adorable when their faces grow up enough to match their "bunny" teeth. So glad the suitcase showed up. I left my best doll, "Boothbay," in that little hammock they used to have for your stuff on sleeper cars almost sixty years ago, and the loss nagged at me for years. Who knows what subconscious trauma wee one might have had if her doll had disappeared for good? So, "all is well." Bet you know where that semi-quote is from!

Hooray for crafting boys and for returned luggage!

Posted by: Dorothy at August 15, 2007 3:56 PM

The boys look great!!! I love when my kids want to do crafty things. And Wee One looks adorable as usual :)

Posted by: Michelle at August 15, 2007 4:17 PM

Oh! That's so wonderful! I'm thrilled that Wee One got her darling clothes back. And Mom must feel a lot of relieft, too. Of course, Wee One is looking fabulously fashionable, so that always helps. :) Yeay everyone!

Great craft projects, boys! You're so lucky that they enjoy creativity so much. Legos are such a fun thing, too, aren't they?

Posted by: Chelsea at August 15, 2007 4:40 PM

Yay, I knew it would!
Haven't the boys shot up?

Posted by: Sarah at August 15, 2007 4:53 PM

You really have the sweetest kids!

Posted by: Seanna Lea at August 15, 2007 4:57 PM

Yay! The bonnet returns! I think you should have cake or something to celebrate. ;)

Posted by: Tammy at August 15, 2007 4:58 PM

The boys are getting to be so big! Wowza.

Oh I am so glad that the suitcase made it back to you. My heart was breaking over the loss of all those precious things. . .

Posted by: knittingnurse at August 15, 2007 6:06 PM

I can't believe how big the boys are getting! Time for Cub Scouts if you are inclined that way. I had the greatest time with the Marine!Goth's Den back in the day. They all thought I was the greatest Den Parent because of all the crafts and outdoor cooking we did.

It was a blast. I can honestly say I've loved each stage of being a mom. (ps, glad to see the lost luggage gods smiled on you!)

Oh, hooray for the returned suitcase! I was all set to send a new pillow doll, too!

Posted by: Mary at August 15, 2007 7:54 PM

OH YAY I'm so happy you got it back!!!

Posted by: Patricia at August 15, 2007 8:52 PM

Yippee!! Little one won't remember this great turn of events, but I am sure her mommy will! About 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my first baby, my mom accidently threw away my first dolly -it pained her so much! (Still does!) But this is a great ending!

Posted by: Deana at August 16, 2007 8:11 AM

I love how those lost suitcases just randomly show up at the door. Mine returned unexpectedly, except it somehow ended up in front of my neighbor's apartment door, not mine. Seems like if the delivery people took the time to cart it from the airport to my place, figure out how to get into the locked building, and mysteriously leave it while I was sitting obliviously inside my home, they would have at least had the sense to leave it for the right person!

I'm glad you got all your (and Wee's) stuff back!!

Posted by: ruth at August 16, 2007 11:40 AM

Yeah for wee one!!! So glad her lil suitcase finally showed up.

Posted by: Angela at August 17, 2007 5:22 PM

You know this means you are going to have to start locking up your stash now, eh?

Posted by: Carol at August 19, 2007 8:23 PM

I hope Gil will get in to crafts...he's doing much better now in coloring. I'm so glad you got back your belongings and wow wee one is already sitting!!!
