ravelling

One week of the boys in camp and instead of knitting, I spent all my time on ravelry.

I'm usually way out of the loop on new cool things like this. I had almost no idea what ravelry was and even now that I'm in, I don't really know what the hell I'm doing. But I'm having fun! At first, I wasn't sure that it'd be something I would really find useful since I'm not an organize-my-stash-in-Excell or keep-track-of-projects-on-my-pda type of person. (I don't have time for that, I'm knitting, for goodness sakes!) But ravelry is just so darned easy to use, especially coming in at this point when there are thousands of patterns and yarns already added. It's just a matter of entering your own project info and uploading a picture and, bob's-your-uncle, you've got 53 projects in ravelry!

If you're playing around on ravelry this weekend, come say hi.

I love Ravelry! It's so great to have a project in mind and instantly be able to see how other people's have turned out, what problems they've had, what yarns they've used...love it!

I'm loving it too - but boy is it a time sucker-upper. It does get those creative juices flowing though.

Thanks, this looks great! though I am something like 17,000 on the list so we'll see how soon I can join in.

Posted by: Sara at August 18, 2007 11:22 AM

1465 people in front of me as of today. :) I'm trying to put Flickr photos in (sometimes) so that I'm ready to hit the door running!

Welcome to the Ravelry time vortex. It's a lot of fun, isn't it? I added you as a "friend" - hope that's okay.

Thanks for your info on Ravelry. I was invited to join (or something) but I didn't do it--as you said, I'm knitting for gosh sakes! I was afraid that it would take away from my precious little knitting time. I might reconsider.

Hi,
I just got my ravelry invite two days ago. Oh boy this site is the best thing for a newbie knitter. I am enjoying it so much and it is a great way to organize works in progress and completed works. I also like seeing what people are doing with some yarn I have. My name is vonmarie on ravelry. :)

I'm still waiting patiently for my ravelry invite.
There are almost 5,000 people ahead of me!

Posted by: Marlyn at August 18, 2007 12:03 PM

It's very addictive, isn't it?
But, I do love it.

Posted by: mari at August 18, 2007 12:07 PM

I'm on the list still, but I'm worried I'll be using up all my free time! That seems to be the thing

Posted by: Sarah at August 18, 2007 12:55 PM

16400th on the list. Sigh.

Posted by: Morgan/Margaux at August 18, 2007 12:55 PM

207 on the list as of this morning. I am giddy with excitement to get in and start playing around!!! I figure 2 or 3 more days til I can get in and say hi to you. :)

I've been on Ravelry for two weeks. It is definitely a time sucker, but I have been having a ball! It's so awesome to be in an online community with other yarnaholics.

I just got my invite and I'm having so much fun! I'm not normally one to keep track of all the details of my projects (sometimes to my detriment), but it's easy on Ravelry.

I got my invite a week ago, and so far I'm loving it. I think I'm only adding projects and stash as I go along instead of going back and cataloging everything I've done. I love looking at how the same pattern can come out so many different ways! It's all very inspiring.

Posted by: Andi at August 18, 2007 6:17 PM

That's why I use it so much, it's too easy! And nothing beats easy for someone as lazy as me.

It's it just the best - I just love it. I just love seeing what everyone is doing. I love Ravelry. I think it's a huge time suck at first then it's just maintenance. I really love to be able to see how patterns that I'm interested in have turned out --- same with yarn. It is really inspired.

I have been warned about the time-suck that is Ravalry. My friend Aya is already on it - I signed in under her to take a peek and lost about three hours! I'm hoping to get my invite soonish, though! I can't wait to start uploading the stash and seriously using it.

I love it too! I find it inspirational and an excellent way to find out about yarn and patterns. So many free patterns!

It takes time, but I figure it is time well spent if it has a positive impact on my knitting.

How do I say hi to you there?

Posted by: amanda j at August 19, 2007 12:43 AM

Still waiting for my invite... can't wait (problem)... but now there are only 3 tousand something in front of me... yay progress!

Posted by: Karen S at August 19, 2007 6:44 AM

Glad you are on! It is a real time suck though. I hope the boys enjoyed camp.

Posted by: Kathleen at August 19, 2007 10:12 AM

It's fun, isn't it? And a huge time sink. :)

Posted by: Romi at August 19, 2007 12:27 PM

I am 724th in line. I should get my invite this week. If I am on this weekend, I shall say hello. I've been reading your blog for years. It is the first one I view each morning.

Posted by: kristy at August 20, 2007 9:08 AM

Got on Ravelry last week--very cool. None of my in-person knitting friends have made it on yet--but I think it will be even more fun when they do.

Posted by: Cath at August 20, 2007 12:48 PM

I've finished photographing my stash, now comes the time-consuming part of putting it all in Ravelry. It is a bit addictive.

Also, I have to say I've never heard anybody use "bob's your uncle" outside of "Marry Poppins"!

Posted by: Anne at August 20, 2007 1:18 PM

There are 15 hundred people in front of me as of yesterday. with their 1200-1500 per week invites i am looking for this weekend or next week to get in. I feel its been forever

Posted by: Jenny at August 20, 2007 4:15 PM

well, by now i've heard about it and read about it...but i'm not going to join. I just know I will not do it justice...I'm barely knitting as it is...and can't really read blogs as much as I'd like to either.
