well, at least she likes the knits

Remember all those hats I made for wee one from Itty-Bitty Hats? Now that it's chilly again, I've been putting them on her. And here's how she wears them.

Not at all. What she does is immediately take them off and cuddle with them. I think all those nights snuggling with her blankie has made her very fond of the feel of knits. (Oooooh, something I understand very well!) But she might just be a little too fond of them if it means she won't ever wear a hat! Oh, she'll wear a store-bought jersey hat, but all these knit hats have simply become head-shaped loveys. She'll play normally with the fabric turtle buddy I made her, but she only wants to snuggle with her knitted dolly. I can't wait to see what she does with the mittens!

How very sweet!

Yeh, well that's the trouble with kids and hats that don't fastern under the chin, their removability. Although I've seen kids almost strangling themselves trying to get their hats off, yanking and crying and choking simultaneously! I guess if their ears get cold enough, they'll leave the hat on? How's the hair situation under the hat currently? Can't tell from your recent photos.

Maybe once she has mittens on, she won't feel so compelled to touch the hats!

Posted by: Marlena at October 11, 2007 11:49 AM

Oooh, maybe Marlena. I'll be hoping for something like that.

Still just peach fuzz, Mary. She NEEDS to wear a hat!!

oh man, she is the cutest baby EVER!! :) I don't know what to tell you about all your knitted hats, but at least she likes them! :D hehehehe eventually they would become dolly or bear hats anyway, or maybe hats for HER babies someday - but at least she'll wear some hat to keep her little head warm :) hehehe My sister and I were just about bald until we were 2, so we needed hats too! :) don't worry, we've MORE than made up for it in the amount of hair we ended up with, and I'm sure she will too. :)

Why waste a perfectly good hat on your head?

I agree with Mary. If they don't want to wear one they won't.

Alison, speaking of hats. I made the cute elf hat from your book for my baby (about the same age as yours!). My 3 year old wants one just like it but, orange. Could you recommend a size increase for me? I'm just horrible at that! I love that hat it knits mindlessly and looks adorable.

Thanks! Brenda

"head-shaped loveys" - I love this! :)

that is so incredibly sweet!

Wonder if she's a 'muff girl' instead of mittens or gloves or anything like that? You could knit such cute muffs-- autumn colors and christmas colors then valentine's day............

Posted by: Nancy J at October 11, 2007 2:21 PM

She's adorable either way, and who could blame her for liking the feel of knit hats??

Posted by: Chelsey at October 11, 2007 3:28 PM

Aww. Maybe if you give her a decoy hat to hold and one to wear...

Posted by: C at October 11, 2007 3:31 PM

LOL I like C's idea!

Posted by: erica at October 11, 2007 5:55 PM

Okay, that's pretty darn cute. It's a funny problem to have.

Posted by: Daphne at October 11, 2007 6:59 PM

Bring two hats: One to wear and one to hold! Unfortunately for you, it would mean keeping up with one more thing.

Posted by: Jen at October 11, 2007 7:45 PM

Oh, she's just showing you how much she appreciates all your lovin' work! Or, she prefers that adorable viking helmet more...

Posted by: Dava at October 12, 2007 11:17 AM

Perhaps if you pair the hats... one to wear, one to snuggle?

Posted by: Andrea at October 12, 2007 12:37 PM

My son went through a no-hats phase, but now wears them all the time, whether he needs them or not. He eats dinner, rides his tricycle, plays with legos, everything, wearing a hat (he's almost two). My husband wears a baseball hat all the time, so that might be it. So maybe if you wear a hat, your daughter will eventually imitate you?

Awww. I had to make DS an ear flap hat that tied under the chin to keep his hats on. Worked like a charm.
