I'm halfway through January's block of the month! It was my very first time working with triangles in a quilt block and this block put me to the test right away. It's a star within a star. You piece the smaller, inner star first, which means that you have to start with the teeny tiny triangles at the very beginning. And when you're working with tiny pieces like these, you gotta get everything just right. I had to restitch a couple of seams to get those triangle points nice and sharp, but man was it worth it!

it's the bom!
Well, you've finally broken me. I'm not going to fight it anymore... I signed up for a quilting class.
oh the possibilities!
Beautiful! I just love the colors and your star is just perfect! Can't wait to see the blocks as you move right along! Great job!
looking good lady!!! ;) have fun!
I hope you love it as much as I do Cassandra! :)
Great points! You're sewing like a pro!
I don't know if you're using starch, but if not, you might want to consider it -- it makes sewing those triangle seams so much easier and the fabric will be less prone to stretching/wrinkling. Can't wait to see the finished star!
Wonderful work! I've just become into quilting too. Needles aside for a season I guess....
This is just beautiful! :) Great job!
That's so cool!
Way to go!
Very Cool! I didn't know that you like to quilt, as well! I foster a mutual affection for both knitting and quilting (with a little crochet on the side). I have been a big fan of yours ever since I saw your wonderful book showcased on a Harry Potter display table at Barnes & Noble. I bought it right away of course! I'm a total HP nutter, and was ecstatic that I could now combine my knitting love with my HP love. As a fellow potter fan, have you checked out sew hooked.org? It's Harry Potter themed quilt blocks!
Nice points! You look like you have perfect little 1/4" seam allowances. I may need to go take out some quilting now after seeing you post! :)
Beautiful bloc! There is a much easier way to make the flying geese. It takes a bit more fabric but I think that price is a small one compared to working with itsy-bitsy triangles! I'd be happy to explain it to you in a PM. I'm making a wedding present for my daugher and son-in-law (married 4 years already but who's counting!!) that is made up of a very similar bloc and the entire quilt is made with the easy flying geese method. Can't wait to see this develop month by month!
