rosebud returns

Before I end up on my deathbed mumbling something about rosebud, I figured I should pull out the remains of that rosebud wreath hat I started over a year ago for wee one. You may recall that my knitting buddies were so generous as to make all the little garter stitch flowers and leaves for me, leaving me only with the knitting of the itty bitty hat. Which I somehow didn't manage to finish. The hat I'd started way back then was now way too small for nearly-one-year-old wee one, so I ripped it out and started again. And, to be sure that I'd finish it this time, I went ahead and started sewing flowers on as soon as I had a few inches done.

The original hat pattern (in Itty-Bitty Hats of course) calls for flowers all the way around the bottom edge of the hat and my knit buddies made plenty of flowers for me to do that, but I'm really liking just this little bouquet here. I feel like it's pretty much perfect just as it is. What do you think? Either way, I think it'll be the perfect hat for spring!

I sorta like the little bouquet as it is. You could always use the other flowers on a sweater or other project.

BTW, thanks for the inspiration and sharing your talents. I always enjoy your blog!

Less is more - I like just the small bouquet MUCH better than the riot all the way around.

The hat is perfect as it is right now ! Sew the rest of the flowers on a piece of elastic and make an adorable wreath -of -flowers headband. I had one as a little tiny girl and I loved it ! It made me feel like a princess.

I think the bouquet is plenty--a pretty spotlight of color on a plain hat. As Regina suggests--do something else with the rest.

I like the hat as is also. The hat with the flowers going all the way around just seemed like too much to me. Way not use the roses to make matching mitts and maybe even a cardigan?

That is one lucky little girl :)

Have to say, think the small bouquet of flowers is perfect...it just adds a little pizzazz to the hat...

I like it fine that way...too cute!

I kind of like it with just a little bouquet on the side as well. So pretty :)

Posted by: Dani at February 20, 2008 10:22 AM

I love the little boquet, but now a matching is sweater is needed to use up the other flowers!

Love it as is! So cute.

Oh, I much prefer the little bouquet.

the little bouquet is exactly what i did on that same hat. you can see it in my (LGordon555) ravelry projects. :)

Another vote for just the little bouquet. Though, always one to gild the lily, I might try putting one bloom right at the top of the hat, too.

Now we need pictures of the wee child in her new hat!

I love the little bouquet. It's much more wearable than the entire wreath. Just lovely!

I like the little bouquet. What a pretty hat!

Posted by: Elisabeth at February 20, 2008 11:35 AM

Maybe the extra flowers could go on a scarf or mittens. I have to agree, the bouquet is *much* better than the wreath of flowers. Very nice.

Yet again I'm bucking the trend. All the way around for me. Small bouquets are for grown up hats.

I think she needs flowers all the way around to feel like a forest fairy princess. :) If not, I love the idea of making her a little head wreath with the rest, with ribbons coming off the back.

I'll side with the majority - I love it as is with the one little nosegay.

The little bouquet is so sweet!

I love the quilt for your son, too. It's so cool that he designed it!

I'm not siding with anybody *

except maybe Sarah R. Isn't it time for more baby pictures?

I think you've got enough for two hats—a subtle bouquet one and a gala wreath one. Why choose when you can have both?

Posted by: Sarah-Hope at February 20, 2008 1:08 PM

Lovely hat! I also like it the way it is with the little bouquet. :)

Posted by: C at February 20, 2008 2:45 PM

That is so sweet! It is perfect for spring. Or even the gray days preceding spring when we are all longing to see fresh, bright flowers.

I like it with the little cluster...

Small bouquet. Definitely.
What a great little spring hat. :)

I'm one of the few dissenters ... I like the flowers all the way around. I agree with Lara, it would look more like a fairy forest princess. And hey, if you've got the flowers, why not use them? Also, if your baby girl is anything like any one of my 3, she'll never have the hat on the right way and the nosegay will ALWAYS be in the back!

Posted by: janice at February 20, 2008 6:29 PM

I love the hat as is! Different looks with the flowers front and center; vs. coquettishly to one side; vs. in the back!
The other flowers, yes, would be darling on a headband or even wristbands. (I made fingerless mitts for my friend's preteen daughters, and wrist-warmers with ruffles for my friend's 'wee one' so that she could be like her big sisters, but whichever way she managed to pull on the wristwarmers worked!)

I love it with just a few flowers!

Posted by: Marcia at February 21, 2008 9:55 AM

I like the bouquet. although flowers all the way aroudn would be nice too......

Posted by: Carol at February 21, 2008 10:30 AM

Oh yes, that hat is what caused me to buy that book. And we don't even have kids! I think the rest of the flowers would be really charming on the collar or hem of a sweater for your sweet pea.

Posted by: Robby at February 21, 2008 10:46 AM

Perhaps a lovely little spring cardigan to match the hat? Put the little roses along the hem or as a beautiful little nosegay just like the hat?

The hat is lovely - I am always so amazed at your speed and the beauty of your work.

OMG! Its adorable. Love the hat and the cinematic reference.
