It's the top of the beige/blue neutral quilt! I spent this weekend arranging all the blocks and sewing them together with the sashing and I'm thrilled to see that it came out looking just as I had hoped. I'm working really hard to get these two quilts (this and the purple one) done quickly, so I can send them off as soon as possible. They are for friends and neighbors of my 90 year-old great aunt (I actually made a quilt for her last Christmas), who have been helping her out for a few years now, doing more and more for her as she's become older and less able to take care of her home and herself. I thought they deserved something as warm and comforting as the care they've given her, something that will last at least as long as the time they've spent with her.
I'm off to put together the purple one now... Hope you purple people won't be disappointed!

caring quilts
I live in a green house quite by accident. (I didn't realize that every thing I was buying was green...) This neutral throw could live there quite happily. I'm sure the family receiving it will love it-if not I can give you my address ;)
Great job! I'm not much into quilts or quilting but as a knitter and descendant of generations of tailors and seamstresses, I have an awestruck respect for all things handmade. It's simply beautiful and beautifully simple.
Great job! Looks wonderful!
It's beautiful! Maybe someday I'll try my hand at quilting but for now I'll appreciate others time and talent.
Very effective and wonderful...even if it isn't red.
Oh my... it's beautiful!!! Can't wait to see the next one!
That is gorgeous! I'd cry tears of joy if someone gave me a quilt like that as a present. :)
Wow, that turned out beautyful!
Wow, that looks amazing (and so simple). I must try that pattern myself. Will you be hand- or machine-quilting it?
The quilt is beautiful. I love the idea of giving your friends such a meaningful gift of thanks. It gives me a great idea for my MIL's neighbors who have been doing the same for her lately.
Lovely job! And I've never met anyone that didn't just love having a quilt to cozy under at least once in a while. And yes, me too, maybe I should be thinking of this for the delightful gal that helps care for my elderly aunt 'just because she's my neighbor'.
That's gorgeous! It looks a lot better than I initially imagined from the blocks. I just couldn't get my mind to make the jump from the pile of blocks to a layout.
It looks quite lovely, the colors worked very well together. That is a very nice thing for you to do for them.
Liz T, I haven't ever done any hand-quilting, so it'll be machine quilted. I haven't done much machine quilting either, which means I'll just be stitching in the ditch. I like the look of straight-line, grid quilting though - something about it really appeals to my sense of symmetry and order.
I think that's wonderful of you. It's always nice when people extend a hand to help others. I think it those quilts are a great way of expressing your gratitude for their help in a difficult situation.
Love the muted color palette. It reminds me of a house that my mom and I called "the civil war house" when I was a kid. Not because it was old, but because when the owners added on to the house, they put blue siding onto a grey house. It was that way for years, but sadly only one color now.
Wow! That seemed fast! I love how this looks and love the sashing, too. What a lovely gift. I always enjoy your blog and seeing your children.
love the quilt top, love the sentiment behind it, love that we have a new president!!!!!!
