lo hicimos!

Wee one has me watching a lot of Dora the Explorer these days. So when I finished hubby's winter socks last night (the first pair of socks I've knit in over a year), I was overcome with the desire to sing "lo hicimos! we did it!"

Hubby slipped them on for the photo and then, like when you've just bought a new pair of shoes, asked if he could just keep them on. Guess he likes 'em! And since he was so appreciative, not to mention patient in waiting for new socks, I immediately cast on for another pair for him.

no time to wind hanks - I've got socks to make!

More on these next week...

Those are some fine looking socks. I'd keep 'em on too :)

in your busy busy day... could you give specs? I love the bigger gauge (gets done faster);) I love your blog so very much.. a day without blue blog is like a day without sunshine...

How do you manage that? I can never knit from the skein without it looking like the cat's been at the yarn again.

Those are some warm looking socks! And the new ones look very plush and thick. What yarn are you using for the new pair?

Posted by: Seanna Lea at January 23, 2009 10:28 AM

Nancy, the first pair of socks is done in Yarn for Sox on a US7. I used Ann Budd's basic sock pattern from Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns done in a 3x1 rib.

Seanna Lea, the new pair will be done the same pattern (like ALL of hubby's socks!) in some Rowan Magpie I bought years ago when it was discontinued and in the sale bin.

Liz T., I got so lazy in the last couple of years, that I developed a whole technique to knit directly from the hank! I wear the skein around my neck and knit off of it like that. Then when I put the project away for the night, I just wrap it into a hank again.

very nice!!!

I'm so glad they got the hubby nod of approval! That's some darned (tee-hee!) fast work on the next pair.

WoW! I got half way through my first sock yesterday and frogged it. Now I'm getting close to the toe part of my second sock and the heel looks like an abomination!

I'm inspired by your photo to keep trying though! Those look great!

You wind the hank around your neck? Hmmmm... I'm visualizing it as still a Big Mess. The only way I can see this is if you constantly whizz the whole hank around and around to let it gradually unwind.

Anyway... very nice socks. Both of 'em! (Or should I say all three of them?)

What fabulously short dps are those?

Posted by: Mam at January 23, 2009 1:58 PM

Hey, those are some nice socks! He won't want to take them off!

I love Yarn for Sox, and the (limited) colors it comes in. There's none to be had around here, though, and I'm not in the mood to drive. I saw a photo on the Harlot's blog of someone knitting with an unwound hank as you describe, and everyone was properly horrified! Does it make your neck itch??

Mam, I use Bryspun dpn's. I love short dpn's - they're so much easier to hold when I'm just knitting socks or the top of a hat. The Bryspuns are also a little flexible, which makes them very comfortable to hold as well.

Brilliant socks. I like to knit with bright colours, but I don't want to wear them. Plain blue is perfect.

Love your socks.
I have also started knitting from the skein and enjoy it - it gives me more time for knitting!

Muy bien!

Now I can't get that Dora song out of my head! My oldest grand was in love with Dora from about age 1 to 3 when he discovered Thomas the Tank Engine & now his little sister is starting to watch her (altho Elmo is still her first love). Lovely, lovely socks. I love Bryspuns - wish they came in small sizes for knitting regular thin sock yarn. But I can't use those short needles. My favorite DPN's for socks are 8" long bamboo size 2.5 mm (US 1). Crystal Palace no longer makes that size in an 8" length so I tried the 6" ones & they kept poking me in my palms. I'm not sure why. I have quite small hands so you'd think it wouldn't be a problem. It appears no one sells the 8" 2.5mm bamboo needles in this country. I've gotten them from the Netherlands but the postage is outrageous!.

really like the pattern and yarn!

Congrats.
when did wee one start watching tv? Emily isn't showing much interest, mind you, maybe it's because it's always Gili TV...as we only have one TV , so I don't really get to put on baby worthy TV shows.
