jumping rope

Okay, I admit it: being the mom of two third graders is exhausting! I feel like I spent the whole of last week rushing from one thing to another: school, playdates, home for homework, off to swimming, and then little league, little league and, after that, a little more little league. In my few free waking hours, I kept myself busy, jump roping.

Wee one's jump rope dress (Oliver & S pattern) is almost done! The subtle a-line dress pattern is filled with all the usual fine detailing and tailoring that I've come to expect from the Oliver & S patterns. They take more time and care to put together, but, man, are they worth it. Check out the snazzy collar and placket on this one.

That took like three pages of directions. The placket is pretty darn clever and not too difficult. The collar, however, was tricksy. I didn't do it exactly right, but it'll pass once it gets its edgestitching. I got mega lucky with the mushroom print on the placket though. Two tiny mushrooms fell perfectly at the bottom and in the center of the top-stitching detail.

Cool, huh?

While I was sewing up her jump rope dress, wee one was jump roping too.

she tends to jump at the wrong time - you can see her mii face-down next to the word "miss"

The boys have introduced her to our new favorite wii games, Active Life Outdoor Challenge, including her favorites: jump rope and log jumping. As long as she can jump!

Adorable! I have re-attempted sewing (and quilting!) lately, with much better results than my first efforts. Thanks for the continued inspiration. :)

Love that little dress - I avoid sewing those little curved seams whenever I can - too difficult to maneuver (at least with my inexpensive machine.) That looks like a great Wii game - I'll have to check with my daughter to see if they have that - it'd make a great family Xmas present. (I'm trying to think of fun things to get that don't take up much space - their current house is about half the size of the one they own here in Illinois & the play room is about a third the size of their previous one.) Two year olds really are jumping machines, aren't they? Love that curly blond hair.

I MUST get my sewing machine fixed. The dress is wonderful amd I can't wait to see Wee in it. Or do we call her Wii now? As to the Wii, I can't help but snicker at the nerve of our good friends at Sony calling a frickin' video game "Active Life Outdoor Challenge" when kids actually having an active outdoor life would put them out of business!

All the work now pays off in their teens - I'm enjoying the fruits of all my labours during the years when the kids were in elementary school. We get along and they know they can count on me because, from experience, they've seen I was there for them! Congrats on being there for yours!

I can't wait to see that dress on Wee One. So adorable!
