I'm shrugging as fast as I can too. I've got a ways still to go if I want to wear this to Downtown Yarns this weekend.
It's really starting to look like a shrug now though. I seamed up the first sleeve and have knitted across the back up to the start of the second sleeve. I love how the first sleeve turned out after seaming. It's just the right width, in my opinion: nice and loose, a little bell shaped, but not overly drapey. Perfect!
I think I may need to buy myself a new sundress just to wear with this shrug. Don't you?

Yes, you should definitely buy yourself a new sundress to go with it! It's beautiful, I can't wait to see the finished product. Nice colors.
Oooooh - that is perfect. I want one!
I think it's looking just beautiful!
I Love the way that is turning out. You are such a genius with color and design. Can't WAIT to see it all done up!
I'm loving that shrug. I think a loose one like that will work for me too!
Oh! Ah! Pretty! Pretty!
Great design Mz. Alison...very fresh!
I am totally in love with the shrug's design, what a great way to use the feather and fan pattern. I simply have to have one!
Better yet, I think you should break out the sewing machine and sew a nice breezy summer dress -- that way, you can find something that complements the shrug just so!
It's really beautiful Alison. And I just love the colors.
Very nice! A new dress is definitely in order!
Beautiful!! Definitely a new sundress!
New sundress: ESSENTIAL!! :)
That will be so cute with a new sundress, but it looks great already with your jeans and blue t-shirt. Perfect shrug, dress it up or down.
Ooo, a sundress sounds perfect!
Your shawl looks phenomenal. I'm sure you'll finish by the weekend so you can wear it at Downtown Yarns. Have a great time visiting and yarn shopping in NY.
I LOVE the shrug you are making. How can I get the pattern since I would like to make one for myself. Please email it to me if that is at all possible.

Yes. I plan most knits around the purchase of new clothes to wear with them.
You definitely need a new sundress. That is one cute shrug! Love it.
and all the sundresses are on sale now... definitely get one! Or two....
I think a new dress is most certainly in order :-)
That looks totally awesome, I love it! The sleeve really is just the right shape, wonderful!
Allison,
your shrug is coming along beautifully!!
If you make a pilgrimage to Downtown Yarns this weekend I'm afraid I'll miss the unveiling of your mermaid...I'm the sales-girl who helped you pick out your yarn and helped your little boy (cutie!) wind it.
I was wearing the very same shrug that started it all!!!
I'm so happy to see this patttern get the attention it deserves- everyday we get calls at the store about it, it's rippling through the blog world, and you were a pioneer!!
Downtown Yarns is closed on Sundays for August, but if you make it in on Sat. the other girls will give me full report
It truly is beautiful and special, sorry I won't see it in person, but I'll be sure and track it here.
all the best, Mary
Hey, look it's Mary, the woman who was wearing the shrug at Downtown Yarns! I'm so glad to hear that you all are getting the attention you deserve. :)
NOTE FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE PATTERN: As always, if you're looking for pattern info, simply click the archive link next to the time stamp at the bottom of the entry ("feather and fan" for this entry) for more info. I always put the pattern source and yarn info there. This pattern is a store pattern from Downtown Yarns. You can contact them for info on how to get it.
Thanks, Mary, for letting me know about the change in store hours for August. I'm sorry to say it, but it seems to be the general MO of yarn shops in NYC to close weekends or Sundays for some part of the summer but not to write that on their website. You'd think after three experiences like that, I'd just ignore the website times and call, huh?! Anyhoo, I'll try to make it on Saturday, but the shrug won't be done by then. :0(
So, does this mean that a million people are making this shrug? Do we need a knitalong??
love the colour,just fab!
I think a knitalong would be fabulous. Also - would you post the colors you are using? I really love the look of those two colors together. :)
