weasleys' weekly wizard wheezes
Weasley updates:
Patti reports that she has finished one weasley and the second is almost done
Deb has finished a Hermione hat and will be making the matching mittens next
Ina finished a bookscarf and is planning another
Julie finished a HiP scarf in Gryffindor colors - hooray!
and the mini-weasleys are back - Lisa just finished her first (check out her HP library!)
Andrea did an awesome job with the A on her sweater
Julie has joined the knitalong and has started a PoA scarf
Emily is working on a pattern for Ron's chullo hat in the latest movie ( I can't wait for her pattern. I may have to make these for the boys this winter!)
Cirilla has started the intarsia on her R
Martha is crusing along on her Gryffindor scarf
and Katia has posted two J charts for everyone
Speaking of charts, while I haven't finished the whole weasley sweater pattern yet, I have posted yarn/gauge/sizing info and three H charts (check out the free pattern page). Sorry to drag out the waiting. I've been doing a lot of knitting, cleaning out the project basket in preparation for our vacation next week. Never fear though, the weasley pattern is the last thing on the list to finish before I leave!
And when I get back, I can start on my own weasley, because, much to the relief of everyone at my LYS, I finally decided on the yarn! I'm going with the ginger colored Felted Tweed. (Erica says she also ordered the ginger, which she'll use with watery for her sweaters.) I decided I didn't want my weasley sweater to be too dark, so I managed to rule out brown and black, and then couldn't get the whole ginger/Ginny association out of my head. Do you want to know what really finally convinced me?
Well, a friend told me about a local band near me called Harry and the Potters. They're two brothers who kind look like Harry and they sing Harry Potter songs. Seriously, they have TWO cd's with Harry Potter themed songs like "My Teacher is a Werewolf," "Stick it to Dolores," and "Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock!" They are so funny! My favorite song by far is "We've Got to Save Ginny Weasley." It was listening to that song over and over that got me all Ginny-focused ("You can't take my best friend's sister and get away with it!"). You can listen to a few of the songs, including the Ginny song, here. And see if you can catch the weasley sweater reference in the "Wizard Chess" song. I can't stop singing the "Wrath of Hermione" song either. "Ri-ta Skee-ter bet-ter shut her mouth be-fore she incurs the wrath of Her-mione..."
Okay, go save Ginny Weasley and stop Voldemort and all that.

another weasley
Hey, I've been reading your blog for a while... but how do you join a knit-a-long? I just started on a PoA scarf and i was just wondering... ps I'm a big fan of Stick it to Delores.
Thanks,
Makenzie
Thanks for the link, Harry and the Potters are playing this Sunday at the JP World's Fair. 1:30 on the Community Stage in Hyde Square.
Aren't Harry and the Potter's wonderful? They're so bad, they're good! "Save Ginny Weasley" has to be my favorite too!
"Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh!!!We'll spend our Christmas being in-vi-si-ble... Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh!!! We'll be invisible this Christmas!"
Hope you come out with that Weasley sweater pattern soon!
I just got my yarn for my son's Weasley Sweater and for a Gryffindor HiP scarf, and posted a pic of the yarn on my blog.. Just so that you can add it to your update! I'm just waiting on the childs size 4,6 pattern (Im thinking maybe the 24 inch chest size) so that I can start!
Alison,
I'm about half way done with my HiP scarf (which I love, by the way). There's a pic of my progress on my WIP page.
Cristina
I love Harry and the Potters! I ran across their site several months ago and cannot stop listening to them!
Hi Alison, I've finished my scarf, now I only have to sew in ends (always the worst part...)and do the fringe. I hope to post a picture of the FO next week.
What is it about HP music that makes it so catchy?
Have you heard of skittlesama on LJ? She writes HP songs about the evils of Potter Sues and the implausibility of the Harry/Hermione pairing. You can download them free too.
Alison,
Would it be possible to knit a Harry Potter striped scarf in the round AND on the bias so the stripes were diagonal but so there's no wrong side? I'm trying to figure out how that would work and I thought you might be able to help.
Hi Alison! You won't believe me I'm sure, but I FINALLY started my Weasley sweater! It's been HOW long? Anyway, thought I'd tell you I've finished the back, and have started a sleeve. I have a question for you and anyone else....
This will be my first experience with intarsia. My pattern (the one from the British Kit) says to carry the yarn across the letter, as opposed to using separate balls of yarn. What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? If anyone wants to email me or comment on my site to help me out, I'd appreciate it.
Have a great vacation!
I carried the yarn across the back, and it came out okay... except for one part, where I pulled a bit too tight. But it's not too noticeable.
Question: How big are the neck holes? I'm adjusting the pattern to fit me, and I'm wondering if the neck of the largest child size will be fine, or if I should make it larger? Thanks! (This is my first knit sweater.)
