The elves have completed another pair of socks! With the blue Shepherd Sport socks finished, the elves are celebrating by catching up on their sleep. Then they'll be catching a break from holiday knitting and will most likely work on the Hermione hat. All the remaining items on the holiday list (2 pairs of socks and 2 scarves) are for folks who we'll see on Christmas Day or later, so we've decided they can risk it. Anything to keep the elves happy. We're all S.P.E.W. supporters here, don't you know!

What wonderful, manly, techy guy socks! I really like the other ones too.
Wow - you are doing SO well on your gift knitting! They all look great. I'm only committing to one thing this year. My usual gift of socks to the husband will be in the form of sock yarn this year. Poor guy - maybe he'll learn to knit? Ha! :)
HOW DO YOU GET ALL THOSE SOCKS DONE? I'm so jealous. If I had 2 more pairs of socks to complete before Xmas, I wouldn't sleep for the next week!
Seriously, the socks look great!
As usual, I'm impressed with your knitting speed! The socks look great and I hope to have 2 complete socks sometime in the near future! I was wondering if on your mini sweater ornaments if you added the letter with duplicate stitch? I'm tempted to do that on mine cause it's taking me way to long to do intarsia....
Ok, I am going to ask a stupid question. Bear with me please.
The heels on your socks, what are they called and how the heck are they worked? It has been years since I made any socks with that heel and I would love to figure it out again.
Yes, folks, the elves have been putting in some serious overtime!
Traci Sue, I use a version of Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' short-row heel. She uses yarnovers when making short rows and I've explained the technique (plus taken a few pics) in my ankle sock pattern. (Her pattern and instructions are available online to Interweave Knits subscribers and also in her book Simple Socks Plain and Fancy.) You can also do short row heels by using wraps, which is described in this great Knitty article.
Christina, I did use duplicate stitch. It goes so much faster when you can knit the little sweater in a solid color and then just do the 10 or 15 stitches of the letter in duplicate stitch afterwards.
SPEW supporters LOL You, mama, are too much :)
Lovely socks - it is a very lucky someone who will find those under the tree.
Best Wishes!
Well, well, guess what I found?

I feel so silly now. But now, NOW I can work these heels when I am in a hurry. :D
Wow! Those socks look so snuggly and warm.
