tech guys rule

Now that the sock pal matches have been made, hubby's plotted out the paths that all the socks will take in three months when we're all done knitting. How awesome is that?!

click for the BIG map

Everyone should have received their sock pal email by now. (Check your spam filters too!) Just to clarify, you were sent the name, email, blog, and preferences of the person you will be knitting for. You will be sent their full mailing address shortly before the May 2nd deadline. This gives those folks who are moving a chance to update their addresses and everyone else a chance to double and triple check their addresses in the system. In addition to your sock pal's info, you have also been sent the name, email, and blog of your sock sister. The (fabulous!) sock sisters are gals who offered to help me keep tabs on everyone's progress. (Because there is just no way I can watch 600 blogs!!) Please send updates of your progress to your sock sister. They will compile a list of updates every week and send them to me and I'll add them to the Tuesday update post.

The final list of participants will be posted in the next couple of days. Be patient, the tech guys are tired! Speaking of the tech guys, aren't they awesome?! Well deserving of their now finally finished techguy socks. (Psst.... you can get the pattern at Magknits.com.)

hubby likes retro video games

master webmaster, Jason, is an Apple guy

and who doen't like the happy mac?

I had so much fun making these socks. Although I still don't think that they are enough to repay all the hard work they have put into making the sockapaloozas run smoothly. Thanks guys!

PS - The tech guys have even managed to get that Google map from Tuesday's post to stop crashing in Internet Explorer. Go check it out IE'ers!

Alison, you sure love to knit socks :)

If only, I could get hubby to wear as often.

I love the socks of geekiness +1! M'boy has been asking for a geeky sweater for a while, but these are so much quicker!

Congrats on publishing!

Got my sock match today - thanks again to you (and the tech guys!) for putting this all together!

And, speaking of socks... I LOVE the techguy socks. I've been searching high and low for a sock pattern to suit my hubby, and the apple logo and mac are perfect for him. Those are great man socks - simple, with just a touch of geekiness. :)

Posted by: Cyndi at February 2, 2006 1:21 AM

Those are some awesome socks. I'm partial to the apple pair.

Posted by: Jessica at February 2, 2006 1:27 AM

Wow, that's a very cool graphic! Nice...

Posted by: Jon at February 2, 2006 1:30 AM

Happy Mac! Oh, I love the happy mac. I did NOT love the sad mac, which used to happen, rarely thankfully. The Bomb was the WORST.

Posted by: Jenny at February 2, 2006 2:17 AM

boah I have have have to make the apple socks fpr ym husband :)

Posted by: Sibylle at February 2, 2006 2:58 AM

Hey, why is the map showing the back side of the world?? ;-)

And your tech guys found my exact spot, I'm impressed!

I remember someone mentioning in the comments that the only place not represented is the antarctic. Actually we count part of the antarctic region as Norwegian, so there you go (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Antarctica.jpg). In 2005, a new Norwegian year-round research station named Troll was opened.
Just please don't send my socks there...

Posted by: Helene at February 2, 2006 3:06 AM

Thanks tech guys! We really appreciate all your hard work and thoughtfulness.

Posted by: Erica at February 2, 2006 4:12 AM

Hold on, is that a picture of Centipede in the top sock photo? Ahh, the good 'ol days!

Posted by: Erica at February 2, 2006 4:14 AM

Oh, nevermind I figured it out. (duh) ;)

Posted by: Erica at February 2, 2006 4:26 AM

Yeah for Sockapaloooza! What fun the maps are! I saw the tech guy sock pattern last night on Magknits and immediately went searching for where I could play "Breakout" online. I LOVED that game ages ago, and apparently, by the time I spent on it last night, I still do! Thanks

Posted by: Johanna at February 2, 2006 7:40 AM

Thanks Alison! Thanks tech guys!

Posted by: Rosemary at February 2, 2006 8:38 AM

Thank you very much Alison! I can't wait to find the perfect yarn for my sock Pal :o)

In the picture above it looks like yarn attaching all of the pals!

I appreciate all of your hard work (you meaning the techies too)

This is my first exchange....
Knit on!

LOVE the tech guy socks!!! You wouldn't mind sharing your happy mac chart too, would you?

Thanks again, so much for putting this swap on and thanks to the tech guys too!

Posted by: Carry at February 2, 2006 9:18 AM

So glad people are excited about the techguy socks! I'll post the happy mac chart in my free patterns area in a week or two. (Once all the sockapaloooza admin stuff is all wrapped up.) Thanks!

Posted by: alison at February 2, 2006 9:28 AM

Great logos on the socks -- they would make anyone smile.

Many thanks to you, your tech guys, and the sock sisters for making the sock exchange go so smoothly. You all make it look easy.

Posted by: jennifer at February 2, 2006 9:45 AM

Thanks so much for doing this!

What do the red/green lines mean?

Posted by: Colleen at February 2, 2006 9:46 AM

Thanks so much to you and the tech guys for all the hard work.

I love breakout. I introduced my 8 year old son to the game at Christmas. He didn't get the point. I think it may be time to get out the atari which we still have.

Posted by: Mindy at February 2, 2006 9:51 AM

Oh, yes, color explanations for the map. The lines are the paths the socks will take. The green lines are beginners and the red lines the regular group. Cool, no?

Posted by: alison at February 2, 2006 9:58 AM

I adore the Mac socks! And it's wonderful that you did them in shades of grey--it's particularly appropriate for the little "toaster"-style Mac motif, 'cause it was a black-and-white machine (unless you had $$$ for the Color Classic, which we didn't. In fact, the color ones still go for big bucks on eBay.)

Posted by: fern at February 2, 2006 10:47 AM

Yes, Beth, that was exactly the idea. I chose black for the PC gamer and grey for the Mac guy, so the socks look like the screen background. Glad someone picked up on that!

Fern, you are in the database and I'll send your info to you again. NOTE TO HOTMAIL USERS: Hotmail seems to be deleting some of the sockapalOOOza emails. Many of the pals with Hotmail addresses have said that they didn't receive their email. Once they added me to their contacts list, though, the problem was solved. So if you have a hotmail account, you should add me to your contacts to be sure that you receive your sockapalOOOza emails. Thanks!

Posted by: alison at February 2, 2006 10:59 AM

Go tech guys! Go Alison! I love, love, love the gamer socks, by the way. May have to make up a pair for my gamer hubby :-)

I'm so excited I already posted a poll yesterday asking people which socks I should make! Go one over and pick a pair!

http://scoutj.blogspot.com/2006/02/sockapal-poll-za.html

Thanks again for organizing this!

Oooooooo!!!!!! Mac Socks! GAH! These will definitely be my first socks!! Maybe I will do the old fashioned Rainbow Apple version. I am an old Mac user, since '88 ^_^ Yayy!!

Posted by: KittyCat at February 3, 2006 10:33 PM

TechGuys do rule! Those maps are really great. I'm glad they got the one from the other day to stop crashing IE -- although it's further proof that I need to stop being lazy and download a better browser. The socks are very fun too. I had already seen them on MagKnits and added them to my to-knit list. Thanks to both you and the techies!

Posted by: Laura at February 4, 2006 3:10 AM

I love that map - a piece of art in itself!!

Posted by: Alison at February 6, 2006 9:40 PM

The chart for the Happy Mac sock is now available on the techguy socks free pattern page. :)
