rubbing noses

Two knitty nosewarmers for the boys. Did I mention that they added these to their wishlists? Well, they've certainly mentioned it to me - every cold early morning walk to school since November! S said that he needed a little hat for his nose and I said I just may know of a way to make such a thing. Famous last words, eh?

I used all the leftover yarn from their kool-aid dyed caps for these - so they'll match their winter wear perfectly - and knit them in about an hour last night at 9:30. It would have gone faster, but I was half-asleep already after a loooong day (work, work, work, and then two holiday playdates for the boys). And I fiddled with the pattern a bit. My gauge was larger than the original (I used worsted-weight wool instead of stretchy cotton sock yarn), and the increasing section of the short rows looked a little too gap-py without double wraps. So I went back and double wrapped them like in traditional sock heel short rows.

Now they just need a little blocking and some ties. I can't wait to see them on the boys. That red one is going to look like a clown nose, for sure! Who knows if they'll find them too silly to wear or not, but I'll get at least one picture. I promise!

I love the Kool-Aid dyed yarn! I tried it once but I didn't use enough Kool-Aid. Doh!

Very cute nosewarmers :)

OK, now I HAVE to do that. My DD has been asking since the fall for a nosewarmer, and I kept thinking it would look too silly, and putting her off....

ummmm...i want one...you need too teach me short rows

As a kid I always begged my mom to make me something like this. She thought it was too silly, and never did. I was so excited when I saw the Knitty pattern, but I think I'm a bit too old now. Darn! Can't wait to see the boys in them!

First time comment. I just had to say hi after seeing those adorable nosewarmers! About two minutes ago (before I read your post) a co-worker came in and asked me to make her a nosewarmer! What are the odds of that? I had never heard of one "officially" and after a little chuckle, I started going over in my head how to do it. Thank you! Can't wait to see pics of your sweet boys wearing them. Happy holidays!

My 1st comment here and it's got to be over those "nose warmers" ... absolutely hilarious. Every kid is going to want one!

How cute! Those are going to be flat out adorable on your boys. What a good mama you are :-)

I can't wait to see this! If they will wear them to school then you have really raised them right. You better make one with the left over sweater yarn so that their sister will be ready as well.

he he, it's so cute, it could actually be torture.

Hey, I just put up a pic of a Knitty nosewarmer on my blog! I got an e-mail from a guy who had been googling for nosewarmers, and ended up on my blog. Of course I had to help him getting the perfect cristmas present for his friend, lol....

That is hilarious! I can't believe the boys actually asked for those. I'm interested to see if they actually wear them. What a good mom you are.

A LEGO ball winder!!!

I immediately thought of you, and wondered if the boys still needed to make mommy any Christmas presents?
