b blankie begun

I know he said he just wanted a long yellow strip and a long blue strip and "no pattern", but I was too bored doing the stockinette. Sooooo, I took "no pattern" to mean "no color stripes" (like in S's blanket) and made an executive creative decision to add a texture pattern to B's blankie.

I really felt like this blankie needed some texture. The yellow and the blue B picked out were looking a little too baby-ish to me, and I got the idea that one of the fabulous texture patterns that Sarah Dallas uses in her book might make the yellow look more mature and also maybe boy it up a little. I think the long vertical lines will be very striking. And I'm happy to be doing some seed stitch after all those garter stitch edges from S's and wee one's blankies. I'm not sure yet if I'll add any texture to the blue strip. It might be alright on it's own, like S's long red strip, but we'll see.

B says he likes it, so it's all good so far.

I am in awe of your speedy knitting! Luckily the baby I am making a blanket for is late... I ordered the itty bitty hats book today too, as all of the hats you have made look so lovely, I have many friends with little ones and hats will make excellent presents.

Can you please share your secret of having so much time to knit?? I AM SOOOOO JEALOUS! I only have one kiddo and I can barely find time to knit a few rows a day!!! Anyways, as jealous as I am....I love everything you are making right now!

holy cannoli, alison - you are seriously cranking those knits out!! you're faster than kris, for goodness sake, and that's really wicked fast. makes me wish i could get juuuuust enough of a cold to justify taking a full day of from work to knit my heart out. not like that will happen (watch, now i'll get a full-blown flu or something). but a girl can dream. ;) the blankets look awesome - what lucky kids! i also think it's so cool that those little guys not only choose colors and patterns for their various knits, but give you hilarious rationalizations for them. what smart cookies. ~gabriella

Texture does just what you said! Adds interest and brings it up a notch from "baby blanket". Perfect!

Some textured stars or circles might be fun on the blue part. And it might keep you from being bored stiff. Very nice blankets.

You knit fast, woman! Holy cow! The blanket looks wonderful. :)

You are a blanket knitting machine. And oh, if there was a prize for Best Knitting Mother, you would be the front-runner by a mile!

Once again, I am in awe of your knitting speed. Love the pattern! Sometimes that executive decision needs to be made.

You sure are making progress. Are you sure that the wee one isn't knitting yet :-)?

You are rocking out on those blankets! I love the pattern so far!

Very nice! I think I might have to order that book. I have been wanting to knit blankies for my kids but I dreaded all those stitches. But now, in strips it seems doable.

Boy, if I could knit as fast as you....
I'm just imagining the possibilities. Great job.

I love the texture as a subtle design element which doesn't distract from the soft yellow, rather, it adds depth.

All I have to say is I want to be one of your kids!

Your blankets are fabulous! I have started a couple, but the ones with the small blocks just never seem to get done...and then the thought of piecing - yikes! I like the idea of the bigger blocks and less seaming. I love circular knitting, though...maybe I will try knitting one in the round and then steeking it.

I am so impressed (and envious) of the speed with which you can crank out your knitting - and it looks so good!!! Tell us, what's your secret? House elves? Oh, wait. You must have children that nap without massive productions. *sigh* (now even more envious)

Wonderful! You amaze me each time I pop in to visit your blog, you are a very nice mommy to knit all three of your wee ones a blankie!

Posted by: Danielle at February 24, 2007 1:21 AM

Love the added texture - it does 'boy' it up.
Look at his face!

How many blankets have you made since I've been on the same sock? I did finish the sock tonight and now I can start the other foot but ding dang you are fast.

Posted by: Kate at February 24, 2007 8:22 PM

Wow, you are an uber knitter. It looks FAB. You make a good point as for the blue stripe, woldn't want to over do that texture. I'm a sucker for ribbing. Love ribbing. This is the 1st time that i'm realling likeing SEED.

Using black yarn to bind the sections would make the light yellow and blue pop, and completely remove the blanket's babyish tone. Blue + yellow + a touch of black = superhero colors!

I like it, too! Great pic of the little guy. It really shows how happy he is =-)
