house heads and funny feet

Well, it's finally here - I got my copy of the book! It's just on its way to distributors now, I think, so it'll still be a bit before stores have it, but it's coming! To celebrate, I finished off my second house hat.

This one is a Hufflepuff beanie I made with Classic Elite Bazic from my stash. (Love the Bazic, by the way - totally one of my favorite kid yarns!) I've always felt like I'd be in Hufflepuff, so I was really eager to finally make a Hufflepuff item. Next up, maybe a Ravenclaw hat, since I like their colors the best of all the houses.

And now, since you haven't seen the book yet, another sneak preview:

These are Dobby's Socks, based on the mismatched pair of socks Harry sees Dobby wearing at Hogwarts in book three (one of which is Harry's old sock) and the pair that Dobby knits for Harry for Christmas in book four (you know, with the broomsticks and the snitches). They were so much fun to design! Dobby is such a unique and funny character and he's a fellow knitter, so I just had to include some sock patterns for him in the book!

(Pssst... you can see a couple of other previews at the Knitpicks site!)

Alison- you have brought so much pleasure to so many! Thanks again for writing the book, for all the Sockapaloozas, and for sharing your knitting on this blog!

Your book has arrived at Booksmith!

Alison, best of luck with the book...I just know it'll be a winner.

Congrats on the book! This is so exciting.

"Dobby socks," heh, heh. I'm waiting for my pre-ordered copy from Amazon - can't wait! The timing is perfect with Movie 5 and Book 7 so close. I'm contributing some knitted HP prize items (have a scarf and felted wizard hat in progress) to Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport for its midnight sale in July - gotta make it good because it's the last one. Perhaps your patterns will inspire other items! On another topic, what's your favorite way to avoid jogs in your house hat stripes?

Congratulations! It looks like a lovely book, and I am anxious to see all of the projects.

Hee hee. I like the Dobby socks.

I love the socks! Dobby is one of my favorite characters - I'm glad you included a tribute to him :)

Dobby always cracks me up. Can't wait for the book!

Gah! Dobby socks! I love them!

How exciting for you! Congratulations!!

AHH! I had this idea, I just didn't know how to carry it out (I'm not good at writing my own charts.) I actually HAVE a red sock and a green sock knitted up, sitting patiently in my stash closet, waiting for the broomsticks and snitches to be duplicate-stitched on... I am SO SO excited for your book! I've had it pre-ordered at Amazon for months now...

Posted by: Jo at April 27, 2007 1:48 PM

Ooh, I always wondered if anyone would figure out Mrs. Weasley's shrug!! Way to go! Very cool stuff.

Posted by: ruth at April 27, 2007 2:15 PM

Congratulations Alison! I have had it pre-ordered for months and can't wait to get it. I'll wear my Weasley sweater to read it. Love the Mrs. Weasley shrug....

I'm with you, as much as I would love to be in Griffyndor I know I'm a Hufflepuff.

I'm very excited for the book. I'm getting it in anticipation of when the nephew finally gets old enough to appreciate Harry Potter!

Delurking to say I'm so excited about your book! I've had it preordered for ages now, can't wait to get it. :) I will absolutely have to make some Dobby socks!

Posted by: Danielle at April 27, 2007 4:35 PM

Wow! I have been away for awhile, and imagine my surprise and excitement to hear about the new book! My daughter (age 10) and I just added it to our Amazon Wish List immediately. She just learned to knit, and can't wait for your book to be released! Actually I found your blog originally from a link on a Potter knits enthusiast's website. Congrats to you, both on your precious little baby girl and the book! Very cool cover, by the way!

Dobby socks! What fun! And is that an invisibility cloak (or maybe scarf?) that I see on the KnitPicks preview?

Posted by: Jennifer at April 27, 2007 7:38 PM

Congratulations on the book! What a great gift it would be for knitting kids like my GD. The Dobby socks are great too. I will have to make some.

Posted by: Katherine at April 28, 2007 9:15 AM

I really must add your book to my library! I love the projects I have seen so far :)

Posted by: Isela at April 28, 2007 2:54 PM

WooHoo! Forget Amazon, we just ordered Charmed Knits from Overstock.com on Friday!!! Happy Dance! Happy Dance! I cannot wait to see all the patterns! I'm avoiding any possible spoilers. I might have to stop reading your blog until it gets here if you don't stop showing pictures. hehe

hey alison, with all the fun blogger not working stuff i accidentally posted twice... i dont know how because before it wouldnt even post once...and randomly it posted twice...just wanted you to know so that you wouldnt freak out or something...

Posted by: leigh at April 29, 2007 10:38 AM

Hey, my copy is pre-ordered at amazon. Today I told my 14 year-old daughter/Potterhead about the socks. I thought she'd think it was dweeby. Nope, she thought it was great. We're both very much looking forward to seeing the book!

Posted by: Helen at April 29, 2007 2:16 PM

Your book is also featured in the current BookPlanet Book Club catalog. Just ordered it using my "Treasure Points." It seemed appropriate somehow.
Congratulations!

Posted by: Katy C at April 29, 2007 2:45 PM

Those socks are way too cute!!!

Posted by: Devon at April 29, 2007 11:47 PM

Just ordered the book at Knit Picks, but I see that Amazon says it's still not released. Does this mean Amazon doesn't have it yet, but some other sellers do? Knit Picks didn't say it wasn't yet released when I ordered it. My daughter and I can't wait! I knit the classic Gryffindor scarf from Knit Atypically.net (which is where I found out about your blog, I just remembered). That's the only HP knitting I've done, but that thing has seen a lot of wear--there's always a kid each year who wants to be a Gryffindor, be it Harry, Ron or Hermione (and my redhead husband was even Mr. Weasley one year). Can't wait to expand my collection of HP knits!

Posted by: Katie V. at April 30, 2007 8:21 AM

I cannot WAIT for the book! I'm going to order it today, so that as soon as Amazon has it, it can come to my house!

Posted by: Channon at April 30, 2007 10:05 AM

I got it!! I got it!! I LOVE it. Can't wait to knit the Mrs. Weasley sweater. Well done, you!

Posted by: knitnurse at April 30, 2007 2:23 PM

I am so excited about this book! I have wanted Mrs. Weasly's sweater for years and now I can have it! I am headed out to scour my local book shhops as soon as my dh gets home.

The socks are great too! No SSS with those!
