fun for everyone
What a busy weekend we've had! It all started with wee one's very first haircut.

She'd heard me telling the boys that it was time for them to get haircuts and at one point she just decided that she was going to get one too. After several days of her touching her head and saying "cut? cut?" I promised her we'd ask the stylist if it was too early to cut her hair. (Yes, she's almost two, but her hair is still very thin in spots and short around the front. The boys didn't get their first haircuts until after they were two!) The stylist agreed with wee one that it was indeed time for a little trim. She hopped up in the seat as if she'd gotten her hair done every week of her entire life and got a pretty little bob, a pretty little bow and was delighted.

Pitch Car
Then it was time for a little something special for the boys. On Saturday, I took them to a local board gaming convention (one we used to go to regularly before we had kids: no war games or miniatures or LARP or anything like that, just the German-style board games we play at home). The boys enjoyed playing Keltis, Incan Gold and No Thanks with our old gaming buddies, but their favorite games of the day were the flicking games.

Crokinole
On Sunday, it was time for my special treat, swap day at Knitsmiths!

I picked up some lovely mohair to use in a scarf (like in the Purl scarf from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts ) and some Cotton Fleece that might become another Smockie for wee one.
And for hubby, I worked a little each night on finally finishing up his t-shirt quilt. I know I posted it as being done last Christmas (um, yeah, Christmas 2007), but I hadn't actually done the binding yet. When I pulled it out to put the binding on, I decided that it needed a whole mess more quilting as well. So I spent the last few nights quilting a large grid through the centers of the blocks and sewing on the binding.

We've both been enjoying snuggling under it on the sofa. Hubby is very pleased to have his special quilt finally and I'm loving how soft, warm and cozy the flannel is.
So a little something fun for everyone. Not a bad four days at all.

If you can believe this... my 10 month old nephew just had his 5th HAIRCUT! Yes that is not a typo...5 trims! He came out with a full head of hair and it hasn't stopped growing!
My granddaughter Baby M (I'll have to stop calling her that - the last time I did she stamped her foot & said, "I'm NOT [stamp] a baby; I'm NOT [stamp] a baby") got her first haircut when she was about 20 month old. She has thinnish, super fine blond hair like Wee One & it was looking really straggly. So my daughter just did it herself - just trimmed the back of her hair even with her hairline (her hair in front was too short to even think about cutting it). It made an amazing difference. She actually looked like she had a lot more hair once it was evened off.
Yes Donna, wee's hair is exactly the same and it totally looks like she has MORE hair now! Little lady M sounds like my wee demanding to get her haircut. ;0)
I love Crokinole! We played it all the time when I was a kid, and we all used to have very sore fingernails from all the flicking!
How funny, Karlie. S actually had a paper cut on his flicking finger, so the fact that he kept playing was really a testament to how much fun he was having!
Looks like a great weekend!
Any tips on t-shirt quilts? I really want to make one and have a sewing friend who might be able to help me... Is it hard?
I LOVE Crokinole! I need to get one of those boards. The quilt looks awesome, great job!
She is adorable!
I knew my kids were aliens. They were both born with mullets and got their first haircuts as soon as we got home from the hospital.
Dude! Loving the meat loaf shirts in the quilt! I'm a total closet fan over here :)
My eldest had her first haircut at a month old. She was born with a head full of hair, it never fell out and her fringe needed cutting within a month. She's now almost ten and is now growing out her fringe - it reminds me of when she was a baby!
Has no one mentioned that wee one looks like she's getting her first smoke in the photo of her first haircut--trick of the lens :)
Supercute haircut.
We were forced to get my son's haircut at 10 months--everybody, but everybody thought he was a girl. His hair was below his shoulders, and it was all I could do to keep my mom from putting a barrette in his hair to keep it out of his eyes.
Oh yes, Cath, the lollipop. The boys still insist on our going to one of those kids haircut places where they get lollipops and animal crackers and can play with bubbles and video games while their hair is cut. Wee one knew very well that a haircut also meant a yummy lollipop treat and did not wait until the cut was done to get hers!
Hey Ariel! T-shirt quilts really aren't hard to make. I think the only really important thing to do is wash the t-shirts well before you use them and be sure to put some interfacing on the back of them so they'll be easier to cut and sew. I measured the largest image from the t-shirts (that center one) and cut all the t-shirts down into blocks that size. Then I added the sashing and so on. Let me know if you need any more details. It's a really fun project and hubby LOVES it!
hey, i've played that crokinole game before!! it was really fun.
GREAT POST! Love the haircut and especially the pink ribbon in the hair!
And the t-shirt quilt is SO AWESOME! IT ROCKS!
Sounds like a lot of fun. Love the T-shirt afghan, what an excellent idea. Gil also got his first hair cut after age 2...he was 2.6 ...and what a drama that was...hopefully when Emily's time comes she will be as good a sport about it as Wee one.
My daughter was a cue ball till she was past two, but she didn't have Wee One's aesthetics either. Love the tshirt quilt. Some people want to hide their past. My past included crokinole! Ow!
