After dyeing Kool-Aid caps for my boys last year, I thought I'd try experimenting with dyeing sock yarn. I dyed some wild stripy yarn with Kool-Aid for my friend Lisa and then Scout's Dye-o-Rama swap convinced me to get some real acid dyes and get serious. I practiced dyeing some bulky wool in solid colors, then turned three skeins of pee-pee colored laceweight into yummy "special dark" chocolate brown. For my dye swap pal, I dyed up a variegated skein in dark greens with small streaks of blue and a self-striping skein of pink and green I'm calling "80's Retro Prep". I've ruined a lot of skeins in between, and certainly am not going to start selling yarn on etsy anytime soon, but it's been fun.
